I was a trial user of AOL at begining of 2004. Before the trial period due, I called them on Jan. 14 to end my trial membership. They made cancellation very difficult. They let me wait a lot of time and transfer phone again and again. I told to AOL at least 3 staffs that I want to cancell AOL membership, but I cann't get a cancellation number until the third staff gave me that. Because there is storm coming, and I need drive to Califonia from Moscow, Idaho, so I hung up the phone. The next 8 month, I stay at Moscow only about 2 month. On the August 27, I was back to Moscow, Idaho and found that AOL has charged me $28.9 for 8 months.in that period, I don't use their service for a second!
I contact AOL about 2 month, they just gave me 1800 phone number. On Sep., 16, when I called the number and explained the situation, staff of AOL told me: he can't help me, but transfer phone for me to cancell! I replied I already cancelled on Jan. 14 and I asked you to have my money back not to cancell! So, I hung up the phone, and didn't talk to any of AOL staff to cancel.
Later, they told me sending the proof that I have been chaged to their Jackvill, FL. Office. So I sent my BOA account statment with letter to them. But I got no response from them.
On Oct, 13, I called them again. A male staff told me he can't return money to me, but my account already cancelled on Sep. 16, so they will not charge me any more! That was wilred, because I didn't cancel on Sep 16, I hung up the phone instead! I didn't complete my cancellation on Sep. 16!
I emailed them many time (That is the easy way to contact them!), they alway give you phone number and do nothing!
I got my BOA account statement this month, and I found AOL returned me $28.9. They charged me 8 months and try to settle by one month? That is unacceptable to me. I pay much respect to Americarn, because most of them do business in honest way. When we are shopping, we alway can return merchaises we purchaise in a period. Why AOL acts this way? Is it a mafia owned company? I don't use their service for a second, and they charge me for a 8 months. When I filed complain, they don't want to full "refund"? What a world!
