Without any prior notification, and only notification after the fact, "Total Defense" software took money out of my bank account. So far, I have literally spent hours on the phone trying to get it back.
"Total Defense" used to be "CA Software", and I bought a virus program many years back. I do not have the program or the computer any more. The $69.99 that was removed from my account was over double the amount that the program originally cost, but once again I haven't used it in years. I was not given any notice to renew (or not) only notice that they took the money. Even at that, CA Software has sold, so I almost did not open an email from "Total Defense", as I did not recognize the name. I was afraid that it was phishing.
But I did open the email and then checked my bank account to see that the money was indeed gone. I called "Total Defense" trying to get my money back. They claimed no responsibility and sent me to their billing agency, Avangate in the Netherlands. This cycle went through twice, with no resolution and a lot of aggravation. When I called "Total Defense" a 3rd time and asked for a manager, they sent me to Avangate again.
The Avangate representative was really the rudest, most unhelpful, demeaning person I've ever spoken to over the phone. A week has passed and I don't have my money back yet. I recommend that people check their software's billing company before they buy and boycott any company that deals with these people. I will update if I manage to get my money back.
