A few days ago I received an email from a lady named Emily Barlage who saw my ad on petfinder.com about a stray dog that I had found. She was interested in adopting our dog and said the dog was for her 10 year old daughter's birthday. She claimed she could not contact us over the phone because she was deaf so we communicated through email. She gave us family information so we thought that she was legitimate. She claims that her and her family live in Lincoln, Nebraska. She also said her husband was willing to pay any price for the dog to be shipped and for the dog's medical bills. We sent her our contact information so she could send us a check to reimbruse us for the medical bills which was only a small fee. She said the check would be shipped the next day.
FedEx dropped off a envelope this morning that contained a check that said Manufacturers & Traders Trust from M&T Bank that was for $2,000. This was much more than the money we were supposed to recieve. The signature on the check was not Emily's name or her husband Robert. The only part of the signature that we could read said Paul.
Today her instructions by email said to cash the check and deduct our $100 before sending the rest of the money to the pet shipper. The shipper's name is Bobby Kitchen. The address given is 2545 North 12th Street in Phoenix, Arizona. As soon as we saw this it was immediately a red flag along with the $2000 check. We typed in Emily's name into google and a report came up of a rip-off "Emily Barlage" had done before that sounded very similar to our situation. We used the internet to find a Bobby Kitchen that lived near Phoenix and one of the names whitepages.com said he was associtated with was Paul Kitchen.
