I purchased a Western Digital hard drives on July 29. There was a $50 rebate associated with it. I forwarded all appropriate documentation to receive the rebate on August 1. I had not received the rebate as of January 1 so I began correspondence with their customer service group. Their response was that they could not do anything because the promotion was closed. The fact that I had submitted the documentation during the promotion did not matter. The customer service group was completely uncooperative in resolving this issue.
An Internet search confirmed that many people had similar experiences to mine and that it was common for this company to not provide rebates as advertised. Additionally, problems with the customer service staff were also identified.
I talked with the store where I purchased the drive and they made good on the rebate (they showed excellent customer service). The store employee stated that several other customers had similar problems in obtaining their rebates on Western Digital products.
I've identified these problems to the CEO, Mr. Matt Massengill.
