I was approached by InternetAdvancement.com through the "bait and switch" tactic described in an existing report. I was e-mailed twice by Naomi, then when I responded, I got a call from "David, " who was super-nice and knowledgeable and convinced me that InternetAdvancement could get me top-ten placement on Google in 60 days for targeted keywords.
It just sounded a little too good to be true, and their "directory information pages" sounded like the bogus "doorway pages" that I know search engines frown upon. I was assured they were not the same thing, but no satisfactory explanation was given, because the information was supposedly highly proprietary and top-secret.
A search for "directory information pages" on google revealed at least two other sites, countrywideads.com, and ecommercesolutions.com, which were identical to Internetadvancement.com. That worried me a bit.
On the day they faxed me the contract I was still having reservations, but I was told it was the LAST DAY of their 1/2 price promotion, and I felt like I was going to miss an opportunity if my instinct was wrong.
I then found 7 "rip-off" reports on the company, one of which described the exact same sales pitch, start to finish, that I had been through, "limited time" promotion and all.
So I narrowly averted disaster, and hopefully others will, too.
