I spoke with someone from Regional Yellow Pages several months ago when they called to "verify information". I told them we were not interested in an ad and they assured me it was free. I told the rep again that I was not interested. I never heard from them until I received a fax on 3/22 saying that our account was in collections. I called and was unable to speak with the person, Ray Patel, from their "Pre-Legal Dept", so I left a message advising that we never authorized any advertisements, never received an invoice, and would not be paying their fraudulent collection demand. I further advised that I would be reporting the scam to the Better Business Bureau, RI and NY Attorneys General, and the FTC.
Word to the wise - hang up when these people call. Do not allow them to record you at all because they will misuse that info to make it seem that you authorized this transaction.
