First I received a voicemail message from this strange number (103-768-0433), but I couldn't make out what the person was talking about because there was so much static and drops in the message. But in between the interruptions, I noticed it was someone with a very heavy accent to the point I couldn't understand even the parts of the message that I heard. Then they called my job phone and left another message which was clear enough to understand, with a callback number. The callback # was 646-918-5357. The voicemail message on my work number was very unprofessional and the person said I would have to call back "this second".
I called back and the person who left the message sounded like the person who picked up the phone, but the person said that they will let the original called know i called back and the person would call me back right away. He called back about a two minutes later saying that I took out a loan with CashNet, which they supposedly deposited into my bank account and I have not paid it back since last year.
I told him I never took out a loan with them. Then he proceeded to try and verify my address, bank name, and the company that I work for. He said that a police officer would come to my job and pick me up by 4pm today and a lawsuit will be filed. But if what? He didn't get to the point of asking me for money, but I'm assuming it would have lead to that if I wasn't going off on him over the phone. He said "Did I ask for any money... No!" I told him he better get the story straight and call me back because I knew I didn't owe any money. He said he would have his investigator look further into it and call me back before 4pm.
When I tried asking him for the company information that he was representing, he said that I couldn't call them because his company was representing them and that I had to speak to him about it. He tried to start yelling back, but I didn't give him a chance to. At first I was mad because I knew that i did apply for a loan and was approved, but then I changed my mind about receiving it and told them nevermind. It was an online company, but unfortunately, I'm not sure if the website in this report is the correct one. I'm still upset that these people have all of the information on me that they have, but I'm glad to know that it is a scam and not just a mistake and that I'm actually going to be "taken to court or arrested". This is ridiculous. I sent messages to a couple of different banks to make them aware of this scam.
