I signed up for Internet service for one year only, paid in advance. But this company continued to bill my credit card after the year was over. When I saw the charges on my credit card, I immediately called People PC.com, got an operator with a very thick foreign accent, and instructed her to cancel the service immediately. After reading at length from a script designed to talk me out of canceling, or talk me into signing up for other services, she said she would cancel my service completely and gave me a very long "cancellation code" which I wrote down.
The next month, another bill showed up on my credit card, so I called them again and was told that my earlier cancellation did not take effect for 30 days, hence the additional bill. "You can still use the service until the end of the month, " I was told. "I don't want the service, " I said. "If I had wanted the service, I would not have canceled it last month!"
This shady outfit deliberately bilked me by extending Internet service after I had instructed them to cancel it immediately!
Let the buyer beware! Do not sign up for People PC Internet service using your credit card!
