Residualsavings.com - Loyalty Savers
Deceptive sales, marketing

Company is one of the usual "discount programs" that offer mediocre discounts for a selection of items, most being less valuable than most consumers would save after paying a recurring monthly charge of $12.95 or something they could find in the coupon section of local shopper papers.

My REAL issue with them is deceptive marketing and advertising practices. They partner with popular consumer retail websites and offer through a "pop-up" or "checkout bonus" page as a customer is paying for items on the original website and offer a "bonus" like "SAVE $10.00 ON YOUR NEXT PURCHASE" or similar. Unsuspecting customers, who think they are still dealing with the original, real retailers web site, click for their "savings" without ever noticing the fine print or text link to the fine print that informs them that unless they cancel the "membership" in the savings program they just signed up for, they will be charged a MONTHLY FEE on a continuous basis. Pretty clever way to take advantage of senior citizens and others new to online sales.

When I called to cancel, as a mystery charge showed up on mom's cc statement for last month, I was told they would cancel the membership (gee, thanks!) nad refund ONE month of membership. When I pushed that further, the phone rep revealed that TWO months had been charged already, so only one would be refunded. When I pushed harder, telling her my cc statement shows the first charge being 11/19/07, so there should be no NEW charges until 12/19, she told me that was an "error" (Oh BS!) and that there was nothing more they could do.

We will see if the credit for one month gets issued, and then will be talking to the credit card company for a dispute.

As a former retail biz operator/cc merchant account holder myself, I recall whenever someone requests documentation or initiates a chargeback against a merchant, there is a $20.00 charge levied on the merchant, so when in doubt or ripped off, file with your credit card!
