While attempting to locate a long-lost friend, I had already quite a bit of information from available (free) data bases. Then I tried to use on-line White Pages. I kept getting routed to a company called Intellius.
So I asked for a report and gave my credit card number. What I received was information I already had plus a bogus address and phone number. This was not the first time I had paid for trash so I decided never to use their shoddy service again.
Two weeks later, I discovered (by accident) an unauthorized charge of $14.95 for the services of PrivacyMatters. It appears that Intellius is working a scam with the second company by furnishing them credit card numbers.
A prompt call to the bank got the charge reversed but how many others will not notice the seemingly minor charge?
