I clicked on a pop-up about research grants and was taken to a website that touted research grants that did not have to be repaid. They did not stipulate what the cost of their service was until I filled in credit card information. Once I found out what the charge was I opted out (x-out) only to see their attempted charge on my debit card account a couple of days later.
Luckily, I did not have sufficient funds in that account or I would be chasing them to try to get my money back. I have no doubt that they will try again, and again, so now I have no choice except to ensure that I keep that account drained until they stop trying.
