How to fight Netzero and their related companies under "United Online"
Contact company first, and record the call (you must tell them you are recording) You will get a very difference response than if you don't... They can be nice when they want to be:)
Document everything you/they did... Names! Dates! Times! Results!
Email is good as it gets it in writing. Do not rely on this for cancellation, though. Copies of your email are in your sent folder. If they claim they "never got the info" you have a copy there.
When your CC bill comes, dispute with the Credit card company first. Tell them you have evidence that you cancelled and that they have not followed their agreement per contract (refer to Netzero "terms" here and send a copy along with a print version of their website if it's a free offer they are not honoring. Mention beginning and ending dates of service and amount, and include print copies of emails).
Next file a complant with Better Business Bureau. It won't do much good, but is helpful for the next suggesstion.netzero has a terrible record with the BBB, BTW: (Include a link to Netzero and their rating to the FTC...
FTC? You bet! The most powerful thing you can do is file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission. This will lead to a class action suit if there will be one. Here are the links (the second one is for complaints):
Http://www.ftc. Gov/bcp/conline/pubs/buspubs/ruleroad.htm
Https://rn. Ftc. Gov/pls/dod/wsolcq$. Startup? Z_ORG_CODE=PU01
If enough people do this there won't be anymore people like you and me who have been ripped off. They only get away with this because people WON'T take the time to complain. This will stop them eventually, and may get your cash (settlement too?) back.
