United Blood Services the biomedical Ponzi scheme

Unfortunately, what the original poster says is not only true, but it is really worse if you put things in perspective.

Let's assume for the sake of argument that people who now sell us oil do so simply by virtue of living in the right location (oil rich countries) at the right time (during the age of automobiles) and having the right technology and transportation to get rich from OIL. We don't have to assume this because it is 100% true! I don't think anyone would argue with this conclusion.

Then how, I might ask, is it any different for people by virtue of accident to have the right type blood (in most cases 0-), living in the right time (when blood transfusions are possible and needed) and the ability to transport (drive yourself to the blood center) to profit from such virtue? The answer is clear... There is no difference. Oil keeps people alive in the modern age just as blood keeps people alive. So What? You might ask?

Well here is my premise... If biomedical companies are getting rich by collecting blood (at least their leadership and upper-level employees are getting rich) then why not the donors? Do you all realize that there are risk, ever so slight, in donating blood? Not to mention the time commitment, and personal cost (pain and fuel) to donate.

At this time in transfusion medical history, donors are not even given any real blood insurance program. That's right, you may have donated 40 gallons but if you need blood you will pay something for the blood just like any other insured, tax paying citizen. Of course, if you are a homeless transient or illegal alien who has never donated any blood you will get it for free.

So if blood organizations want my 0- blood then they can pay for it! Having worked in this industry for over ten years I calculate the worth of my blood to be $130.00 per pint, give or take 10% for market variations. Yes, I will sign a donor document agreeing to abide by all of the FDA requirements, and I will donate on a very regular basis once I am being reimbursed.

Just like many other facets of our life that are now out of control; this antiquated system that benefits those in leadership of vital non-profits must be over-hauled and reformed to provide adequate health care moving forward. More on this later...

Oh, and before someone starts whining that because I pointed out this huge elephant in the room people are now going to stop donating, and people will die due to lack of blood; just know, that some times things worth changing for a better tomorrow require great sacrifice. So Boo Ho you sniveling, whining people in Blood Banking who want to keep your super high paying jobs while everyone else puts out the effort! Pay for my blood or I will just keep it!
