Complaint / Review
Dr. Jeffrey Rempala, Frontenac Dental
Dishonest dentist, substandard work, lia

This is a recent addition to my report on 10/4:

About 6-7 years ago, I got 4 porcelain veneers from Dr. Rempala on my front 4 upper teeth for a cost of $3200. I was told these veneers should last a minimum of 10 years & sometimes much longer with good care. So either way, I was nowhere near the 10 year mark for these. Most, if done correctly, last 20 years from what I've been told since.

In December I noticed a crack running all the way across 1 tooth. I had never had this procedure done before & had no experience with other dentists as far as this is concerned, so I've since then had other faults pointed out to me, which I did notice from the beginning, but didn't know enough to know that it's not quite right. The teeth with veneers seemed too 'thick' right after getting veneers & I could always see a gap at the gumline... You could see veneer, tooth, then gum instead of the veneer extending all the way to the gum line as it should. The veneers also seem to have worn away somewhat in the last few years... I noticed gaps & things starting to open up between teeth, which is what I got the veneers to cover in the first place. And also some chipping has occurred around the edges of the teeth in the last few years. I'm not a soda or coffee drinker & I'm very careful in general with my teeth considering I've had orthodontia from a very early age.

The crack is something that needed to be fixed, since I was told the veneer would at some point break off, & no telling when. And when my new dentist began removing the veneers for replacement, this particular one fell off at the crack line before he even began pulling it off. During replacement he also noticed another faint crack running all the way across the tooth that mirrors that one on the other side. Patches were not a long term option, so if I replaced just 1 or 2 veneers to match the other 'flawed' set, that's alot of money to match something that's not right to begin with. So I opted to redo all 4 & have them done correctly. Plus this new set, I've been assured, will last most likely 20 years or more.

I've also known other patients of Dr. Rempala's with more veneers than I have & theirs had multiple cracks after only a year or so. I haven't called Dr. Rempala's office since the other serious complaint I filed back in 2005 with that office please see 10/4 report, that happened during the time he was absent from the office after surrendering his federal registration to dispense prescription drugs for a period of five years as part of a prescription drug diversion allegations settlement (google it to find out more).

I've noticed a rebuttal to my previous complaint stating only great care from this office, but the person appears young & perhaps cleanings & minor cavity issues could be performed satisfactorily at this office, but why risk it for anything else, or why risk it at all? The results could be catestrophic! Ask around in the dental community & research a little online. I, too, thought all was fine until the events of my first complaint.
