Obriens Training Center More sweatshop than school. Poor quality educators, full blown scam

I attend this cosmetology "school". Frankly I am shocked that the state would license this establishment as an educational facility.
For the first 500 (of the 1500 required hours) you are in the class room learning the basics of cosmetology from an instrutor that can barely read the eighth grade level textbook. It was torture having to sit through her putting the emphasis on the wrong syllables throughout the text or unable to pronounce the words entirely.
Once a student has reached the 500 hour level, the school is allowed to charge for services performed by the students. Mind you hands on practice is critical to your education. However, they go far beyond hands on practice. First, roughly 80% of the clientle is aged 60 years and come in for shampoo/roller sets and perms.in the real salon world this represents less than 5% of your actual workload. There are no advanced cutting classes, no creative styling classes, no color classes, no information about or opportunities to attend hair shows, competitions etc. Their students have no idea about these critical learning opportunities. The instructors mix all the color used on clients so the students never have the opportunity to actually learn anything about color other than the application method they are told to do.
The instructors are not required to have any advanced training themselves.
The students welfare and education are NOT the priority. They will book clients throughout the day, even to the extent that the students do not get any breaks including lunch! If you miss your lunch you have to stay late so you can punch out for 30 min. Then punch in to punch out for the day! 7 hours straight without a break.
There is no time between clients to sanitize your implements as required by law either.
Students are just free labor for the school salon. Their education ends at 500 hrs.
And then there is the "kit" RIP OFF! They charge $450 for books that retail @ $200,
$100 for a lab coat that retails for only$20 and the kit is full of cheap crap you could easily obtain for less than $300 yet they charge more than $1000. The students use the same cheap scissors on the clients that they use on their mannequins.
Thinking of cosmetology school. Beware and don't even think about this school! Don't let the "Aveda" label fool you. This is a sweatshop not a school! Once you figure out that you are not getting the education you are paying for, its too late. You have to pay anyway. So there's no out. You got the shaft laughs on you. This school teaches one thing. How to pass the state board exam. Great so you get a license but can't get a job cause you know nothing about being a hairstylist. Stay away. Stay very far away!
