Regency Beauty Institute - Cypresswood, TX Campus
RBI If You Only Read One Thing About Regency, Let It Be This!

Hello:

First, I want to let all know that I felt like I did alot of research before I chose this school. I went to a four year university, with a goal in mind to go to Cosmetology school after I got my degree, and own my own salon.in July I was finishing my last semester at college, and decided to look into Beauty schools. I looked into many schools, including Aveda, and other local schools. I called each school to get a comparison of prices and curriculum. My husband and I chose to make an official visit to Regency Beauty Institute, Cypresswood, TX campus.

My first impressions were that of a beautiful, clean, and modern campus. I was really excited! The campus manager came out to greet us, and the story begins there. I should have been more aware of her dress and demeanor, but I was too excited about the campus! Nothing was obviously wrong, but she didn't wear the most professional attire, and kept staring at my wedding rings while we spoke. I tossed it out, and decided I was being too judgemental. I told myself that it was going to be great, and this was a great place... Filled out the check and handed it over (thus sealing my fate for 10 months of torture).

We left the school, and I was a little nervous, asking whether or not my decision was hasty. I made myself believe that the expensive cost was an indicator of a quality education.By the way, as of my enrollment in the cost was $16,500, which has since gone up to $18,000.

My first few weeks were really great, even though we missed nearly three weeks due to a Hurricane. But, even before I got out of workshop, I noticed things were off. The campus was fairly new, so I knew there might be some kinks. But, the teachers were often not in the classroom teaching, rather, they were in the office having meetings on the rules and how to run the school. I spent most of workshop talking with classmates. Some teachers were better than others, and most treated you like children. Once on the floor, that's when things got worse.

The campus is well diversified, and that actually became a problem. One black student accused a white teacher of being racist. I was a witness, and this did not happen. The teacher was so upset, that she quit. Another great teacher quit the very next week. They were employed at RBI for only 5 months! After those teachers were gone, we were short staffed.

The campus manager is inefficient and unprofessional. She is a very nice person, but cleary not cut out for the job. Her assistant manager is the worst. She is power hungry and extremely unprofessional! She seems so nice and down to earth, but once you get to know her, she turns on you. I caught her talking about me to the campus manager in the dispensary one day. Although she was probably the best teacher as far as learning, her pettiness is ridiculous. She would constantly pick out my flaws, and make my days a living hell. She actaully told a student she would physcially "check" her if they were outside of school! Other teachers at that school are just laughable. Many of them talk the talk, like they are the greatest, and they actually are lacking in their own skills. Bottom line, the teachers are underqualified, and you end up teaching them in the end.

To be honest, the problems aren't solely with the campus. I truly believe that the corporate structure is at fault, as well. They set the tone for underqualified individuals to teach. Basically, you are paying top dollar for inept teachers. You spend nearly $20,000 to be treated like a child. We would have monthly meetings where the teachers would literally yell at us for things like the toilet being broke. I was actually laughing that they were blaming it on us. They accused someone of going into the toilet and physically breaking the chain in the tank! No one would put their hand in there, hello! These people are complete idiots.

Bottom line: Please be sure this is where you want to drop that kind of money! Now that I am done, and have taken and passed my state board (thanks to my own efforts), I can honestly say my education was not worth the money. I would take my decision back in a heartbeat. I could have gotten the same education at a community college for a fraction of the price. Sure, the campus wouldn't have been as nice, but the look is not worth the money and torture. Although this is just an account of one campus, corporate has its own set of problems, which trickles down to every campus they have. Please beware!
