Signed up for Accounting course from Stratford Career Institute on February 28. I decided to cancel because of health reasons. The contract stated to cancel the course you need to send in a certified letter with all supplies. I sent the letter in without the book because the book did not arrive until the third week. I think this is done on purpose to cheat the consumers. The certified letter was signed for on 3/13/09 (I still have the card). The book was sent in the general mail. I asked the post office how would I know if they received the book, and they stated if I do not receive it back then they received.
The problem is how it was processed when they received the book. I feel this school is dishonest. They tell you if you send a certified letter with the supplies you get a full refund. Yet you do not receive the supplies until the third or fourth week. Also the check was not cashed until a month after I sent the letter. This school is a scam and they have no integrity! The book was of poor quality and more for a junior high school student.
I know they will not give my money back but I am not going to pay them an additional $184.86 which is what they are demanding I pay. They sent a letter stating they put the course on hold for two months if I paid $51.66. They are SCAMMERS! I talked with an attorney and he stated that if I sent the letter and they received it do not worry. But I still worry because this stupid school situation can go on my credit report.
