As a work-at-home software developer, I joined a Karate school so I could get in better shape and help with stress. Unfortunately, I was recently told by my doctor that I could no longer participate so I had to quit.
After reviewing my contract, it does allow for the cancellation of the contract after any injury or medical illness. I explained the situation and was told I needed a doctor's note. I paid to go to the doctor and got the note.
I sent the note to the "Sensei" and he said that he needed to know what the medical condition was so he and his "team" could determine if it was a good enough reason. I believe that a physician is better qualified than a karate instructor (a high school diploma or GED is NOT required to be a certified karate instructor - CBMA).
Since I refuse to disclose personal medical information to a stranger and my doctor is bound by doctor-patient confidentiality, there's nothing I can do.
From day one I knew the school was all about the money, but I just wanted the exercise and stress-relieft. But now I'm paying the price! I'm being taken advantage of and desperately need help.
Can anyone please help or refer me to someone who can!?
