Tru Talent Management seemed to be a legit business run out of Utah. The appearance of the office space is nice, and the employed seemd very niec and were very attractive. It seemed like a genuine modeling/acting agency. I was ushered into an " audition" to be put on with the agency. I was told that very few are chosen and that I had a great look. I read some lines from a script and I sucked really bad but I was told that I had some sort of natural ability and that with some classes I could become really big. During the interview the vice president of the company came in and added that I should be on the modeling side too. I was on cloud nine thinking that I had a chance.
Later I find out that the "few" that are chosen are everyone who walks through the door. We are persuaded to sign a contract and pay a deposit then immediately start the classes. I quickly realize that people are still being interviewd daily, and that the classes are filled with people like me, that cant act, that were just pushed through the contract process.
In my case, I was hired with a company that would have me gone out of the country and would interfere with my ability to attend the "classes". Thinking that they would work with me, I called Tru Talent to work out a deal to let me out of my contract since I was unable to attend. They rudely denied my request and asked for me to pay my balance immediately. This is when it was obvious that they were not here to make me an actor, but they just wanted my money. Why should I pay for something that I am not even able to use? I did my research and its called "inability to perform". Unfortunately I have to get a lawyer involved to sort all this out. I would rather pay a lawyer 3k than these thieves!
I refused to pay for classes that I will not and did not attend so now I am being harrassed for 2800 dollars. They added a 50 percent penalty, so my original debt of 1800 went up another thousand dollars. I attended 3 classes and am unable to finish yet they want me to fork up 2800 dollars. They promised me good pictures on there internet site but I have yet to see this webpage they created for me. I asked to have my pictures retaken but was told that my pictures did not matter because it was all in the audition that people get parts.
I was told not to try out for anything until I had completed the classes. I feel lied to, and manipulated. These people do not care about helping you, they just want your money.
The owner of this company sells all their contracts to her father who owns a collection agency. All the "talent" is to these people is a contract. Once you sign your name, another company comes in and buys the contract from Tru to ensure collection. It is obvious that Tru Talent does not make enough money from booking its talent, that they have to charge you to dream just to stay afloat.
