I purchased airline tickets from Orbitz.com. Upon completion, orbitz presented me with a link to claim some kind of rebate or coupon. I clicked the link, but decided not to follow through - it was some kind of third party. I DID NOT enter my credit card number. I know this for a fact. It is a corporate credit card and use is limited to work related expenses.
Trilegiant was somehow able to charge the card I gave Orbitz for a service called Great Fun. Completely unauthorized and illegal. I can't believe this company, and others like it, have unrestricted access to people's accounts.
Apparently, in the United Staes, ANY company can charge a consumer any amount they wish, if they can obtain their account information, and the burden to disprove is on the consumer.
How can this be happening unchecked in this country? How do we stop it?
