The school provides a substandard experience and accepts and graduates everyone unless they have an alterior motive not to. Capella is outrageously corrupt and makes a fortune off the unsuspecting consumer via the taxpayer through Title IV funding and bogus partnerships with other colleges and businesses.
The instructors are low caliber, the curriculum doesn't provide adequate depth and breadth of study, and their idea of rigor is only the students' effort to meet requirements to get the paper. Many of the instructors don't post in the classroom, and there are no cohort groups to network with. Lots of luck in cyberspace.
In fact, they can and will ignore you as long as possible and only address your concerns if they must which is to prove they made an attempt at due process. There isn't anything of the kind there and if you don't like their incompetence they can and will discriminate against you.
They know there is little you can do to fight them and they have lots of money to pay others to look another direction. I had my financial aid fouled three times and they tried to blame and bill me for their errors. There are still $ descrepencies that have not been reconciled with the gaurantor, the lender and the school.
It is obvious that they specialize at "virtually" rearranging reality and that's not all. Due to their lack of supervision, Capella has had more than one instructor steal and convert intellectual property from graduate students who then use that material to design their classes or publish articles. Of course the school doesn't address the problem because it doesn't really exist.
Sadly, the school evidences a complete and total lack of insitutional integrity. The school never even offered a Ph. D. Manual or template until 2003 and dismally fails to provide support and resources to students during the dissertation process. They even advocate using illigitimate editors that rewrite problem papers in order to keep the graduates flowing.
Their focused seminars and residencies are a joke.in addition their academic standards committee is all about protecting their liability. While I was a student there many others including myself, were subjected to abusive treatment by the faculty when reasonable expectations were made of them. It is a shame when Capella was given such an advantage during the pilot project to remove the fifty-rule imposed because of the degree mill rush.
Furthermore, Capella engages in retaliatory actions against those who stand up for their basic rights such as freedom of academic inquiry, and due process. There are many other good online programs that offer much more for the money and their staff participate in traditional school settings for at least part of their academic careers.
