STAY AWAY FROM RWU even if it's free
I came because it was free. Yahoo, free law school. Great, right? Save money, right? Nope.
I mean, what the *—"The Only Law School In Rhode Island" as they like to say, in a state full of goddamn lawyers who "are very supportive of the school", and it's still impossible to get a job coming from here ("WHERE did you say you go? Oh, there's a law school in Rhode Island? Very interesting. I'll call you, don't call me").
The top 5 students will probably do OK (out of a class of 180, BTW) but that's about it. Sh*, you can do a lot better at Suffolk, NorthEastern, western new england, or even Quinnipiac. And the pity is that the $60k I saved on tuition will be completely gone after a couple of years working at some * job getting paid 35k per year.
Incidentally, the "honors program" that they tout for the scholarship kiddos like me... Well, it's a painful waste of time. All the good things in life, and you're forced to sit there twitching though some drone on a subject COMPLETELY unrelated to law practice, and because it's the teacher's pet project you nod and agree with everything they say to do well. One class this last semester talked about the civil rights movement in 1960, and not from a Con Law perspective. Now, that's an important era in US history and all but what the hell does it have to do with LAW SCHOOL?
Now, you might have realized that you made a mistake after first year. But with a c curve, unless you're one of those top 5 or so students, your GPA is too low to transfer anywhere. (a B average puts you solidly in the top third of the class, almost the top 1/4, after your first year). Every year a few top students run screaming, full scholarships or no.
I'm kicking myself daily. And let me tell you, it hurts. It's like wishing you had skipped lunch so the puking would just be over more quickly. "almost done, almost done, graduation is soon, let's hope they remembered to teach what I need for the bar..."
