It is imperative that one must remain in communitcation with the financial aid dept. To prevent erroneous billing. I would immagine that weekly updates on the account are required.
Beware, the admissions dept. Will discourage this durring the enrollment process. I was advised, by my sales rep. To ignore what Fin. Aid. Told me, relative to my aid status. Yes, I was advised that Fin. Aid did not know what they were talking about. I was further advised that my admissions sales rep. Was arranging "special" funding that Fin. Aid was unaware of.
If one is convinced that the money is coming, it is way too easy to begin classes prematurely. At this point, you are committed. Do not go through that door until you have documentation that the aid package is acceptable. Make certain that all details of "special arrangements" are in writing. The sales reps. Will try to avoid this at all cost. Make yourself unreachable by phone. Force email communication. If they renig on written communication, run like h&.
I have been advised that I was a victim of Bait and Switch tactics by the Admissions Dept. I have documentation that I communicated (from the initial contact) that I am a disabled person, living on a low fixed income. Returning to the workforce is not in my future. I am and will remain unable to repay loans. I was advised that grants/scholarships were being arranged. When I followed up with Fin. Aid, I was advised that this was incorrect. My sales rep. Said to ignore Fin. Aid.
When the first day of class approached, I contacted Fin. Aid to get a final update on my aid package. If I had started my classes, I would have been committed to outrageous loans, minus a small token Pell grant. I advised everyone I had contact with that I was not going to be attending class due to the fin. Aid discrepancy. My enrollment was cancelled at that point.
The information I received from my admissions sales rep. Was nothing short of deceptive Bait and Switch. Pulling this on a disabled person is an even bigger no-no. I have not decided about what course I intend to persue.
These facts are all documented. There is no honest rebuttal. Buyer Beware.
