The University of New Mexico pulled a "bait and switch" tuition ripoff on my son after we visited the site with our son at the Albuquerque New Mexico UNM campus. During the visit to the campus the visitor office personnel gave us a tour of the campus and assured us that since we lived in Colorado our son would automatically be enrolled in the Western Undergraduate Exchange Program. This program was suppose to allow our son to take advantage of in-state tuition and all my son would have to do is make arrangments for the dorms.
Low and behold after we pay the instate tuition they hit him with out-of-state fees. They refused to answer any of our correspondence challenging what they told his parents about his automatic in-state tuition. Then they tie this 18 year old kid up with legaleeze language on a student loan that they have swelled to over $9,000.00 we penaltiers and later feess. We have copies of the e-mails and phone calls and checks we submitted for payment but they refuse to respond. Now they are threatening with ruining our son's credit history. We urge all western state students who are considering going to the university of new mexico to boycott them for ripping-off unsuspecting and students... All they care about is money...
