Teresa Maxwell - The Burroughs Company
Lied, cheated, and stole when selling me a house. Rip-off!

About three years ago, my spouse and I had the misfortune to deal with TERESA MAXWELL (her professional name; her private name is still unknown) in Oklahoma City. Her brother's name is Phil Maxwell and that is about all I know about her because like scammers often do, she has made it nearly impossible to track her down. She prefers to meet her victims through word-of-mouth, assuming the role of a "friend of a friend". She carefully screens her victims for their lack of knowledge about real estate, then promises to educate and protect them during the deal.

Not only did she misrepresent the house we bought, (read that as "lied every step of the way") but as a parting shot, the solid brass lighting fixtures (estimated worth at a couple of thousand dollars) were removed during "repairs" and replaced with $5 cheapies (not in the contract). The way she raved about the lighting fixtures during the sale, it wouldn't surprise me to find them in her own dining room. The theft was not discovered until after closing. When we replaced the cheapies with real light fixtures, we discovered that the wiring in the house was completely rotten, which the inspector she recommended failed to mention, along with the rotten floors, toilets that don't flush, low water pressure, and the rat infestation.

Every piece of equipment in the house was supposed to be no more than 3 years old, and the manuals and warrenty papers were supposed to be provided.in reality, the dishwasher went out within 4 months and the furnace has never worked right.in short, anything worth stealing was changed out.in the last three years, the electrical circuits have failed no less than 5 times. We found out from the neighbors that the house had been on the market for over 10 years because the previous owners were unable to sell it because of all of the problems it has, so we're stuck here until we pay it off and save for a new down payment on a decent house.

Concerning real estate in Oklahoma, it is all buyer beware. I tried to complain to the agency that licenses real estate agents and relevant professional associations and was informed by all that under the current laws, changed shortly before the sale, she cannot be held accountable for any of her dirty dealing. Furthermore, I've never been able to find her home address to personally sue her. May she rot in hell for what she has done to my family.
