We contacted Manufactured Home Foundation & Repair Specialists to do some work on our mobile home - primarily replace all the skirting and patch some insulation. A man named Dale Slaven came to our home and wrote up the estimate. Paul Shepherd was here also, but never came in the house. He stayed outside and took measurements. At the time we didn't know who he was. The flyer we received on our mailbox advertised "Paul or Dale Slaven Installers." Paul's last name of Shepherd was no where on the flyer.
I googled the name Dale Slaven (who we dealt with) and nothing came up. They were licensed and bonded, so I figured we were safe. We even checked their license online and it was active. It wasn't until I went to write the check to Dale for the materials that the name Paul Shepherd came up. He told me to write the check to Paul Shepherd. They naturally cashed my check right away.
They actually showed up at my house around 7 days later with materials. The WRONG ones, however. The skirting wasn't even close to what I had ordered. They assured me that they would take care of it and get the right materials from the manufacturer. They said that their would be additional shipping charges and my husband informed them that we would not be paying them. If they had ordered the right stuff, then the company should eat the shipping cost. They agreed that they would take care of it. They informed us that they needed another draw because materials had gone up.
I was hesitant, but my husband thought it was "normal" for a contractor to ask for a draw. After all, they did show up with materials. Overall we paid them $2100. My husband called Dale over a week ago to come get that flat of wrong materials out of our yard. Dale said he'd be out in about 2 hours, and we still have not seen or heard from him. Neither Dale nor Paul will return any of our calls. Since then, we have found several complaints online under the name "Paul Shepherd". Buyer beware. Do not do business with these guys. They are out to steal your money. They are nice and reassuring and excellent con artists. It is going to be a long drawn out process trying to recover our money.
