Nationwide Home Warranty
Your worst nightmare

I was shopping for home warranty near the end of June. I found this company that offered $690 for two year. I thought it was a good deal, so I signed up with them. On the same day another company warned me about the reputation of this company, so I Google it, and sure enough, it had pages and pages of complaints.

Therefore, I called back right away to cancel my contract. The representative that enrolled me in spent another 20 minutes trying to change my mind. Then she passed it on to someone else who spent another 15 minutes trying to change my mind. I stood my ground, but it's not over. A couple of days later the cancellation department called me and still trying to change my mind. After confirming my cancellation, I thought this ordeal was over. Wrong again.

Even though I canceled on the same day, it took them more than a month to refund my money even thought they said I would get my credit back within 24 hours. This delay also cost me finance charge from my credit card company because I had deducted that amount from my bill. I had to call Nationwide every few days until they finally refunded my money. The story is not over.

When I received my credit card statement, I realized the refund was $50 short. I called Nationwide again and again and again. They kept saying they would process that within 24 hours. It was until today, more than 3 months after my first cancellation, when they told me that $50 was a non-refundable administration fee that I was never told by the sales representative. It was sent as an email attachment the same day I canceled. They also said if I had canceled after 3 days, I couldn't even get the whole refund.

It is clear to me that they intentionally scammed customers into a long term contract by not explaining cancellation policy clearer and not wanting to refund in a timely manner. The operators were rude. The cancellation department didn't call you back. $50 is not a lot of money, but it is a tank of gas, and I don't feel I should pay when I canceled the contract within a few hours!!!
