I find it very understandable that a consumer complaints much like the following was filed just three days ago against the same company.
City Furniture, probably the biggest rip-off I have ever experienced in Retail Sales. Give me ten Used Car Dealers and an AMWAY Person any day.
This is the second time I have been ripped-off by City Furniture but the first time I filed. And the last as I will never buy anything from them again and you should look through thisw site before you buy anything from them either.
Latest rip-off: Bought two pillow-top mattresses from City Furniture less than one year ago. King size for the wife and I and a Queen for the oldest daughter. They were both a store brand (I think) but made by Serta, or so we have been told.
For about two months now my wife and I have been waking up with backaches which continue to get worse. Our daughter started complaining about the same about one month ago. Now, we are not total idiots here. My wife is a certified, licensed and very well educated Medical Massage Practitioner in Florida. These backaches are coming from the bed which has now sunk substantially where our bodies lay most of the time. We have turned the mattresses as instructed but to no avail. So we called and asked to have the mattresses replaced.
A simple call right? Not really.
They said someone would be out to check out the mattresses for us and if found defective they would take action. Well here comes this guy with the personality of a rock, with this fancy tool which in the end simply a Laser Level. He looks all over the mattresses and says, there are stains on the King and Queen mattress. He is right. There are two on the King, one the size of a dime and the other about two inches by two inches from a coffee spill. (By the way, it is not ok to have coffee in bed if you bought your mattress at City Furniture)
On the Queen he points out a mark on the mattress that is, honestly, less than half the size of a dime. He sets some kind of board with inches marked off on it on the beds. It is crooked as hell and remember is setting on top of a pillow top mattress. He fires the laser at it and says the mattress is off only one half of an inch and has to be off by one and one half inches to be classified as defective by the Manufacturer.
So he calls in the office and gives his report. He hands the phone to my wife to speak with City Furniture. He hands me two forms to sign. The first thing I see is that he puts down that the mattresses have been "Abused". Well, that's it. I tell him I'm signing nothing and for him to leave.
My wife hands me the phone with City Furniture and the lady says, it does not matter whether the mattresses are defective or not, your warranty has been violated by the fact that you stained the mattresses so no replacement. You can imagine our moods after that. I just hung up. I may as well have talked to a wall.
Anyway, we were ripped off before by them and should have learned. We bought a table from them and the protection plan so if the kids did something to the finish they guaranteed they would repair it to its original stain. Well needless to say, the kids spilled something on it an stained it. And, guess what, City could not fix it and told us to basically stick it in our hats. Also, the table had a long bolt sticking out of it in just the place where several peoples knees hit it. Yes, many cut knees. Their answer? Call the manufacturer. The manufaturer's response, it is City Furniture's problem.
This mattress thing just happened today and I am not sure what I am going to do. Most likely, I'll spend the $80 and sue in small claims for what I can prove is the depreciated value. Anyone want to join in???
Just take note: You have been forewarned. They will rip you off in a NY second. And you should read the other complaints here about them as well before you buy from them. The protection plans they sell are a joke as you will see first hand from a current employee here.
