Remember, Amana, Maytag and Whirlpool are all the same company and could have the same problems.
There is not much I can do about this piece of junk except warn others to stay clear of Amana. Another case of a top name finding its way to the bottom of the heap. The grill grills but that is about it.
The saga started when I first purchased the grill at Target for $499.00. I waited for a couple of weeks to put it together. When I got it out of the box it was damaged. It weighs a ton. I put it back in the box, which was not easy. I needed to use an engine lift to get the top part back in the box. I should have given up then, but I returned it to Target and they replaced it without any problem.
The problem is the design. What were their engineers thinking when they created this boat anchor? Where did they get their engineers? Amtrak? Did they ask them if they knew what a grill was? Was the answer "Yeah, I have one on my car and one on my train". You're hired!
First and foremost problem is the grill has an open back. When it rains it fills with water. The water runs into the drip pan and overflows inside the base. Of course the grease floats and therefor goes in the inside first. They warn you should cover the grill. An OUTDOOR grill you MUST cover. How do you cook in the rain? Keep on the plastic cover? Great design.
The heat is uneven. The back is hot the front is cool. When you move the grill the drip pan falls out and again spreads grease all over. The grill is almost stainless steel. Mine has started to rust even after being covered after each use.
In the past I haved grilled year around, even in the rain. I would run out and throw on the food and let it cook. With this grill it would steam or boil. I am moving my 20 year old CharBroil back outside and will only resort to the Amana for parties.
Now, I have $500 piece of junk in my garage. Don't fall prey to the Amana name. I wonder how their freezers work. Do not use above zero degrees F.
