Sega complaints: where to take a game, account or purchase problem
This page was checked on 2026-10-20. Sega's own support site, support.sega.com, has a New request form that first asks you to choose the Sega division that developed the game (SEGA, ATLUS, CREATIVE ASSEMBLY, SPORTS INTERACTIVE or TWO POINT STUDIOS). A separate Data Request form is offered for personal-data requests.
Sega's Support Checklist says to give a clear description, the steps already tried, system details, and, for purchases and DLC, to 'Attach your purchase receipt' and 'Tell us your account region and attach an image of your game case and the redemption code.' It asks for one request per issue.
Sega's Support Boundaries page lists what support covers ('Activating Your Game', 'Technical Issues', 'In-Game Content'). The Support Boundaries and Support Checklist pages we read did not state a refund policy. For its mobile games, Sega's help center says of items bought with in-game currency: 'it's not possible to return or swap items once they have been purchased and unlocked.' For a problem with a real-money purchase it says: 'Please submit a support request and the team will look into the problem', with a copy or screenshot of the purchase receipt emailed by Apple or Google. Refunds for console or PC storefront purchases are not described on the pages we read, so check the store where you bought the game and the terms shown at checkout.
Mobile games. On unauthorized charges, Sega's help center says 'the app store providers (Google, Apple, etc) make it impossible for developers like SEGA to charge your account without approval.' Restoring mobile progress is described as signing back into a Google Play Games or Game Center account (support.sega.com, read 2026-10-20). Support Boundaries says 'Abusive behaviour may result in terminated support'.
Privacy contacts. The Sega of America, Inc. Privacy Policy (last updated June 2026) lists [email protected], +1 (833) 390-0939 and 140 Progress, Suite 100, Irvine, CA 92618 for questions about the policy or its practices; it does not label these as a game-support line.
Outside routes. Keep receipts, order numbers and screenshots. A consumer can also file with the Federal Trade Commission (reportfraud.ftc.gov), the California Attorney General if the problem involves a California purchase, or the BBB (see the complaint record below). We did not test any of these routes with Sega.
Who runs Sega in the United States
The U.S. operator identified in the sources checked is Sega of America, Inc., 140 Progress, Suite 100, Irvine, California 92618 (its own Privacy Policy and the Sega Sammy Holdings overseas group list both show this address). The Sega Sammy list (as of June 2026) gives its activity as 'Sales and distribution of consumer' and shows a 'Shareholding ratio : 100.00%'.
Sega Sammy Holdings is the Japanese group parent. Sega of America is a different legal entity from Sega Corporation in Japan; Trustpilot's sega.com listing shows a Minato City, Japan contact, which Trustpilot labels 'Information provided by various external sources'. Our archive posts sometimes name 'Sega Corporation' as the offender for a U.S. purchase, so the exact seller is worth confirming on your receipt.
Games under the Sega umbrella are made by several studios (Sega, Atlus, Creative Assembly, Sports Interactive and Two Point Studios, per Sega's request form). Sega's support site lists categories including Sonic the Hedgehog, Like a Dragon and Yakuza, Persona and Total War (support.sega.com, read 2026-10-20).
Complaint record: BBB, Trustpilot and this site's archive
BBB shows two separate Sega of America listings; we use the Irvine listing because it is in the same city and ZIP as the company's current address (BBB shows 6400 Oak Cyn Ste 100, which differs from the 140 Progress address in Sega's Privacy Policy). As displayed on 2026-10-20 the profile 'SEGA Of America, Inc.' (Irvine) is not BBB accredited and has BBB Rating F, with the reason 'Failure to respond to 9 complaint(s) filed against business'; the complaints tab shows '9 complaints in the last 3 years' and '2 complaints in the last 12 months'. The reviews tab of that profile says 'This business has 0 reviews'. The older listing 'Sega of America, Inc.' (350 Rhode Island St., San Francisco) showed BBB Rating C- with 'Failure to respond to 3 complaint(s)'. A BBB rating is BBB's own measure and is not a finding about a particular complaint.
Trustpilot, as displayed on 2026-10-20: 'SEGA' (sega.com) 2.4 from 20 reviews, unclaimed profile, no history of asking for reviews; Trustpilot states it does not fact-check reviews. These figures are shown separately and are not combined with BBB or with our archive.
This site's archive has 3 approved complaints about Sega, all old: a 1999 post by a buyer of a Sega Pico learning computer who said Sega told them new cartridges would be available in spring 1999 but later found the product had been discontinued; a 2006 post saying purchased Sega software did not work and support did not reply; and a 2009 post about a PC game that the author said would not read the disc. These are unverified consumer accounts from many years ago, not findings, and say nothing about current support.
Court records. A CourtListener RECAP search for the case name 'Sega of America' on 2026-10-20 returned 55 results. We opened four dockets. (1) Sega of America, Inc. v. Consovoy McCarthy PLLC, E.D. Va. 1:25-cv-00257: a 2025 suit by Sega of America against a law firm; entry 1 (Feb 10, 2025) is titled 'COMPLAINT FOR TORTIOUS INTERFERENCE WITH CONTRACTUAL RELATIONS'. On Dec 15, 2025 the Fourth Circuit (No. 25-2132) stayed proceedings 'pending administration of the parties' settlement agreement', and on Dec 17, 2025 the district court stayed the case; the settlement terms are not on the docket and we draw no conclusion about what the case concerns beyond the docket text. (2) Gioeli v. Sega of America, Inc., a copyright case (C.D. Cal. 2:25-cv-00732, after a transfer from S.D. Cal.): an amended final judgment of Oct 30, 2025 states the court granted Sega's motion for summary judgment on Aug 22, 2025 and later granted its motion for attorneys' fees. (3) Muto v. Sega of America (C.D. Cal., filed 2021, nature of suit 370 'Other Fraud'): the docket shows an order from the Ninth Circuit (Nos. 22-55646 and 22-55841); we did not review the claims or the appeal outcome. Older patent cases appeared in the search results and were not opened. None of the dockets we opened is listed as a consumer case.
