RC Willey returns, delivery, warranty claims, financing and complaints: routes and policy wording (checked October 11, 2026)

The wording below is taken from RC Willey's own Policies, Delivery, Warranty, Financing and Contact Us pages as read through a text renderer on October 11, 2026 (rcwilley.com did not load in our automated browser). Check rcwilley.com and your own sales order, delivery paperwork and warranty or credit agreement for the terms that apply to you.

Returns and exchanges. The Policies page says: "we offer a one-time re-selection or refund within 30 days of receiving your merchandise." Merchandise "must be in like-new condition in order to receive full credit"; items bought "As-Is" "cannot be returned." For mattresses the page describes a 100-Night Mattress Comfort Guarantee: after "a minimum of 30 nights," RC Willey "will give you up to 100 days from your original date of delivery to make a one-time reselection," with any difference in value charged. For orders placed online only, the page says to call 888-584-5156, and that for shipped orders a 15% restocking fee, original shipping and handling and return shipping are deducted from the refund. The same page carries the heading "Returning Online Orders is Free at any RC Willey Store Location." It also says that all canceled orders "will be confirmed by RC Willey in writing" and "If you have not received a confirmation, your order has not been canceled."

No Lemon Guarantee. "If we service and repair your appliance or electronic product twice during the first year you own it and it then fails a third time within that first year, we will replace it," subject to authorized service technicians verifying legitimate product defects.

Delivery. Curbside delivery is listed as free and Deluxe Home Delivery as $89.00. The Policies page says a "2-hour time frame" text or email is sent the night before delivery, and also: "Due to our volume of deliveries, we are unable to make time commitments." If no one meets the driver, "a second attempt will be made later that day," and a fee is charged for a rescheduled delivery after two missed attempts. Delivery inquiry numbers on the Contact Us page: Utah 801-596-6950, Las Vegas 702-632-3650, Reno 775-337-4674, Idaho 208-288-4160, California 916-770-2750. Inspect the product with the driver before signing, as the page asks customers to "meet your delivery driver to inspect your product." On damage the Policies page says RC Willey "will pay for a replacement to be shipped if the damage, shortage or mis-shipment is properly signed for," and "If damage, shortage or loss is not signed for, the manufacturer may not be able to ship replacements."

Extended warranty claims. The Warranty page says that if you bought an RC Willey Extended Warranty, you click "File Claim" next to the item in your order history, and that "If the 'File Claim' link is not present next to an item, there is not an RC Willey Extended Warranty associated with that item." Without a protection plan, the page says you "may be covered by a manufacturer's warranty if you are within one year of your purchase date." The Contact Us page lists extended warranties at 801-464-2340 (Mon-Fri 10am-6pm MST). The page's footnotes to its furniture protection plan description say that warranties purchased before February 1, 2019 "only cover food & drink spills, human or pet bodily fluids stains," and that warranties purchased before April 2024 are divided into separate fabric, leather and wood warranties. The page's Pledge of Protection description says that "damage caused by misuse or abuse is not covered."

Financing and billing. RC Willey offers its own credit plans "subject to credit approval." Its Official Terms page states that on the 12-month plan "if the balance is not paid in full, interest will be charged retroactively to the purchase date," and that if "the equivalent of two (2) payments are missed" the plan balance with accrued interest is "transferred to the REG21 plan" (APR 21 percent). The Official Terms page links "Federal Billing Rights" and "Truth-in-lending Disclosure & Agreement" documents, which carry the written-notice steps for billing errors. Billing questions: 801-461-3940 (Mon-Sat 7am-8pm MST) or mail to PO Box 65320, Salt Lake City, Utah 84165-0320; the Contact Us page says "email & text/sms may not be used for Credit/Billing assistance." Financing questions: Credit Specialist 801-464-4740.

Mattress pick-up (California). The Terms page says that for a mattress purchased in California the old mattress can be hauled away at no additional cost at delivery, and that if the new mattress comes by common carrier the customer should call 888-773-7270 "within 30 days of your delivery to arrange for free pickup" within the standard delivery zone.

Other routes. Company Customer Service: 888-773-7270. Outside the company, consumers can file with the BBB, the CFPB (RC Willey appears in its complaint database for credit and collection matters), or their state attorney general or consumer protection office; see the regulator section below.

Regulators and complaint routes

Enforcement actions. No FTC, CFPB or state attorney general enforcement action, consent order or assurance of voluntary compliance against RC Willey was identified in the sources checked on October 11, 2026: a web search combining the company name with attorney general, consumer protection and consent-order terms, the CFPB complaint database (which lists consumer complaints, not enforcement), and a Justia federal docket party search. Direct searches of individual state enforcement databases and of CourtListener (rate-limited that day) were not completed, so this is a scoped finding, not a statement that none exists.

California Proposition 65 notices. The California Attorney General's Proposition 65 notice database lists two 60-day notices filed May 17, 2023 by a private noticing party (attorney Voorhees & Bailey, LLP) naming RC Willey Home Furnishings as an alleged violator: AG number 2023-01328 (chemical: lead; source: metal and glass lamps), with a settlement dated October 11, 2023 reporting total payments of $18,500.00 and "Will settlement be submitted to court? No"; and 2023-01333 (lead; metal and glass picture frames; alleged violators Mud Pie, LLC and RC Willey Home Furnishings), whose settlement entry dated September 12, 2023 names Mud Pie, LLC as defendant. These are private-enforcer notices and settlements reported to the Attorney General, not enforcement actions by the Attorney General.

Where to complain. The CFPB complaint database lists RC Willey as a company; its page for filing is consumerfinance.gov/complaint. State routes for the states where RC Willey operates stores: the Utah Division of Consumer Protection (dcp.utah.gov, "Complaints" menu), the Nevada Attorney General (ag.nv.gov, Complaints & FAQs), the California Attorney General (oag.ca.gov/consumers) and the Idaho Attorney General (Consumer Protection section, ag.idaho.gov). BBB accepts complaints on its RC Willey headquarters profile. Product-safety incidents can be reported to SaferProducts.gov.

Product recalls. RC Willey's own Recall Information page carries a January 11, 2024 notice about plastic anti-tip kits made by New Age Industries that "may have included these recalled kits" in some clothing furniture with a manufacture date of November 2019 or later; it directs consumers to Alliance4Safety (855-416-7370, alliance4safety.org/new-age-recall) or an RC Willey store for replacement kits. Separately, the CPSC recall records list RC Willey among the retailers named in three manufacturers' recalls (BabyHome USA high chairs, March 2013; Twin-Star Duraflame electric space heaters, March 2014; Uttermost mirrors and wall decor, June 2018). Those were recalls by the manufacturers, not by RC Willey.

Who runs RC Willey

RC Willey Home Furnishings is a Salt Lake City, Utah retailer of furniture, appliances, electronics, mattresses and flooring. The company's About page says that "Back in 1932, Rufus Call Willey began selling appliances from the back of his red pickup truck" and that it now has locations in Utah, Idaho, Nevada and California. BBB lists the entity as a corporation, business started 1932-01-01 and incorporated 1959-07-29 (from BBB page data), with the headquarters at 2301 S 300 W, Salt Lake City.

Berkshire Hathaway's Form 10-K for fiscal 2025 lists R.C. Willey Home Furnishings among its home furnishings retailing businesses, alongside Nebraska Furniture Mart, Star Furniture and Jordan's Furniture, and states that R.C. Willey "currently operates ten full-line retail home furnishings stores and three distribution centers" (four stores in Utah, one in Meridian, Idaho, three in Nevada and two in the Sacramento area), and that it offers "customer financing to complement their retail operations." The company's Store Locations page lists stores in Draper, Layton, Orem and Salt Lake City (Utah), Henderson, Reno and Summerlin (Nevada), Boise/Meridian (Idaho) and Rocklin and Sacramento (California).

Company policies describe the Satisfaction Guarantee, a Low Price Guarantee and an in-house credit program (see the routes section above). The Website Terms of Use say disputes about use of the services "must be resolved through binding, individual arbitration" with a class-action waiver, "except for financing relationships governed separately," and that Utah law governs the agreement. The Terms say a dispute notice to RC Willey goes to [email protected] and 2301 South 300 West, Salt Lake City, UT 84115; that arbitration is administered by the American Arbitration Association, RC Willey pays the AAA filing, administration and arbitration fees, and the hearing takes place in Salt Lake County, Utah (by telephone if the claim does not exceed $2,500 and the claimant chooses); and that a user may opt out "by sending a written letter" to the headquarters address "within thirty (30) calendar days of your initial agreement" to the Terms. BBB's profile, as displayed on October 11, 2026, lists Scott L. Hymas as CEO and Jeff Child as President. Home News Now reported on February 16, 2026 that RC Willey announced Child would retire from the position of president, effective April 27, and continue on the board of directors, and that Lynn Lloyd, then vice president of merchandising, would succeed him as president; this page did not confirm the change on a company page.

The complaint record

This site's archive. A search of this site's approved posts on October 11, 2026 found 54 older complaints linked to this page, written between 2003 and 2013 (2003: 1, 2007: 3, 2008: 4, 2009: 5, 2010: 2, 2011: 5, 2012: 19, 2013: 15). All 54 name RC Willey (or a misspelling of it) as the subject. Eleven other posts that appeared to be machine-rewritten copies, duplicates or content with no complaint fact were left out. The posts are consumers' unverified accounts, they are many years old, and they do not describe the company's current service.

Keyword counts across the 54 linked posts (one post can count in several groups): 35 mention customer service, 25 mention delivery, back orders, missing parts or installation, 15 mention damaged or defective merchandise, 13 mention a warranty, protection plan or stain, 9 mention credit, interest, financing, collections or billing, and 2 mention price matching. These are keyword matches, not findings.

BBB. BBB's headquarters profile for R.C. Willey Home Furnishings shows rating A+, BBB Accredited, "150 total complaints in the last 3 years" and "38 complaints filed in the last 12 months", and a customer review rating of 2.08 out of 5 with "Average of 75 Customer Reviews", as displayed on October 11, 2026. BBB page data lists accredited since 2013-04-11, file opened 1982-01-01. BBB says displayed complaint text "might not represent all complaints."

CFPB. The CFPB Consumer Complaint Database, queried on October 11, 2026, lists 93 complaints under the company name "RC Willey" (first received February 11, 2021; most recent October 4, 2026; 25 received since October 11, 2025). Company response timely: "Yes" 85, "No" 8. By state of the consumer as displayed: UT 29, CA 28, NV 22, ID 3, other states 11. By product group as displayed: debt collection 31; "Credit reporting or other personal consumer reports" 24; "Credit reporting, credit repair services, or other personal consumer reports" 23; credit card 8; "Credit card or prepaid card" 6; payday, title, personal or advance loan 1. The company response is shown as "Closed with explanation" for all 93. These are unverified consumer submissions.

Trustpilot. Trustpilot's page for rcwilley.com displays 10,161 reviews with a 4.3 score (71 percent 5-star, 8 percent 4-star, 5 percent 3-star, 4 percent 2-star, 12 percent 1-star), a claimed profile since April 2016 on a paid Trustpilot subscription, that the company "invites their customers to review," and that it replied to 100 percent of negative reviews. Trustpilot states it does not fact-check reviews. The BBB, CFPB and Trustpilot figures measure different things and are not added together.

Court and litigation record

Bylsma v. R.C. Willey (Utah Supreme Court, December 1, 2017). Melinda Bylsma bought a reclining chair with a foot-massage attachment from R.C. Willey as a gift; according to the facts as recited in the opinion, which reviews a dismissal and accepts the complaint's allegations as true, the unit "crushed his right foot." The Bylsmas sued R.C. Willey and the chair's alleged manufacturer for strict products liability, breach of warranty and contract rescission. The district court dismissed the tort and warranty claims under the "passive retailer" doctrine; R.C. Willey then stipulated to liability on the rescission claim and tendered the purchase price. The Utah Supreme Court held that the Liability Reform Act "does not create immunity for retailers, whether 'passive' or not," reversed the dismissal of the strict liability and warranty claims, vacated the attorney-fee decision and remanded. The opinion is a ruling on a legal question about retailer liability, decided on the complaint's allegations; it is not a finding that the product was defective, and the later outcome of the remanded case was not checked.

Other federal dockets. A Justia federal docket party search for "Willey Home Furnishings" on October 11, 2026 listed 10 dockets, filed between 2019 and 2026. For six of them the listing shows a Fair Credit Reporting Act cause of action: Bown v. Experian Information Solutions et al. (D. Utah 2:26-cv-00254, filed March 30, 2026; RC Willey Home Furnishings named with Experian, Equifax and several banks; the docket retrieved March 30, 2026 shows summons issuance and no later entries, outcome not verified), Steffey (E.D. Cal., 2024), Jorns (D. Nev., 2023, RC Willey and Trans Union), Brady (C.D. Cal., 2023, RC Willey, TransUnion and Experian), Singer (D. Nev., February 16, 2022, with credit reporting agencies and a collection company also named) and Averett (D. Utah, 2020). Others in the listing: Nieves (D. Nev., 2023, consumer credit), Buboltz (D. Nev., April 1, 2020, listed under Truth in Lending, cause of action 28 U.S.C. 1442) and a Ninth Circuit appeal, Cardinali v. Plusfour (19-17176), which was not read. Trask v. RC Willey (D. Idaho 1:23-cv-00442, filed October 10, 2023) is listed with the cause of action "42 U.S.C. § 2000 Job Discrimination (Race)", so it is not a consumer case; the docket shows that on December 4, 2023 the court granted in forma pauperis status and dismissed the complaint with leave to amend, and the later outcome was not verified. Outcomes of the other listed dockets were not verified, and most were not opened. No class action or government enforcement suit against RC Willey was identified in the sources checked on October 11, 2026.

Is RC Willey Legitimate?

RC Willey is an identifiable operating business. It lists its corporate headquarters at 2301 S 300 W, Salt Lake City, Utah 84115 with a published phone number, operates ten stores in four states that its Store Locations page and Berkshire Hathaway's fiscal 2025 Form 10-K both describe, and is named in that 10-K among Berkshire Hathaway's home furnishings retailing businesses. BBB shows its headquarters profile as BBB Accredited with an A+ rating, alongside the complaint and review figures given in the complaint record section; Trustpilot's separate page shows a different set of reviews, and the CFPB database lists consumer complaints under "RC Willey". Complaints in all of these places are consumer allegations that the company has the opportunity to answer; they are not findings. The company's own policy pages state its return, delivery, warranty and financing terms, and the sections above compare them with what complaint writers describe.

Bylsma v. R.C. Willey (retailer liability for a defective product; Utah Supreme Court reversed dismissal of strict liability and warranty claims and remanded)

Opinion of December 1, 2017 (2017 UT 85, 416 P.3d 595): the court held that the Liability Reform Act "does not create immunity for retailers, whether 'passive' or not," overruled the court of appeals' contrary conclusion in Sanns v. Butterfield Ford, reversed the district court's dismissal of the strict products liability and breach of warranty claims against R.C. Willey, vacated the denial of attorney fees and remanded. Before the appeal R.C. Willey had stipulated to liability on the rescission claim and tendered the purchase price. The opinion decides a legal question on the complaint's allegations, taken as true on a motion to dismiss; it is not a finding that the product was defective. The later outcome in the district court was not checked.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I return furniture or an appliance to RC Willey?

RC Willey's Policies page says it offers "a one-time re-selection or refund within 30 days of receiving your merchandise." Merchandise must be in like-new condition for full credit, electronics must come back with original box and packaging, and "As-Is" items cannot be returned. Mattresses have a separate 100-Night Mattress Comfort Guarantee with a one-time reselection. For orders placed online only, the page says to call 888-584-5156 and describes a 15 percent restocking fee and return shipping deductions on shipped orders. Check your own sales order for the terms that apply.

What delivery time does RC Willey promise, and who do I call about a missed or damaged delivery?

The Policies page says customers get a text or email about three days before delivery, a "2-hour time frame" the night before, and a tracking widget the morning of delivery, and also says "Due to our volume of deliveries, we are unable to make time commitments." Curbside delivery is listed as free and Deluxe Home Delivery as $89.00. The Contact Us page gives delivery-inquiry numbers by region: Utah 801-596-6950, Las Vegas 702-632-3650, Reno 775-337-4674, Idaho 208-288-4160 and California 916-770-2750. The page asks customers to inspect the product with the driver.

How do I file an RC Willey extended warranty claim?

If you bought an RC Willey Extended Warranty, the Warranty page says to click "File Claim" next to the item in your order history; if that link is not present, "there is not an RC Willey Extended Warranty associated with that item." The Contact Us page lists a warranty line at 801-464-2340 (Mon-Fri 10am-6pm MST). Without a protection plan, the page says you "may be covered by a manufacturer's warranty if you are within one year of your purchase date." For furniture protection plans, a footnote on that page says warranties purchased before February 1, 2019 only cover food and drink spills and human or pet bodily-fluid stains, and the page's Pledge of Protection description says that "damage caused by misuse or abuse is not covered."

Does the RC Willey 12-month 0 percent plan charge interest if I do not pay it off in time?

RC Willey's Official Terms page describes the 12-month plan (12N21) as "12 Month Deferred Interest" at APR 21 percent: "if the principal balance is paid in full by the end of the 12th payment cycle, no interest will be charged. However, if the balance is not paid in full, interest will be charged retroactively to the purchase date." The page adds that if the equivalent of two payments is missed during the term, the plan balance with accrued interest is transferred to the REG21 plan. For the 18M2 plan the page says that "In addition to the interest charged of APR 2%, interest accrues at APR 18%" and that if the balance is not paid in full by the end of the 18th payment cycle the accrued interest is charged; the 36M4 plan is described the same way with APR 4% and 36 cycles. The page links Federal Billing Rights and Truth-in-lending disclosure documents. Read your own credit agreement and statements.

How do I dispute a billing or credit-reporting problem with RC Willey?

The Contact Us page lists Financing and Billing at 801-461-3940 (Mon-Sat 7am-8pm MST) and a mailing address of PO Box 65320, Salt Lake City, Utah 84165-0320, and says email and text may not be used for credit or billing assistance. The CFPB complaint database lists RC Willey (93 complaints as displayed on October 11, 2026, of which 24 and 23 are in the two credit reporting product groups and 31 are debt collection), so a CFPB complaint is an available route. Keep copies of statements and any written correspondence.

What does the RC Willey Low Price Guarantee cover?

Two company pages describe it. The Policies page says RC Willey "will match the price on the exact item found at any full-service, local retailer within 30 days of purchase," and excludes "whole-sale companies, special orders, items shipped direct from manufacturers, floor samples, door busters, going-out-of-business sales, clearance, damaged, or out-of-stock items." The Low Price Guarantee page says that if you find "the same item in stock for less at a local full-service retailer, we'll match it-before or after you buy," and that if a purchased item goes on sale at RC Willey within 30 days, "we'll refund the difference." Ask the store which wording applies to your purchase.

How many complaints does RC Willey have on BBB and in the CFPB database?

As displayed on October 11, 2026, BBB's headquarters profile for R.C. Willey Home Furnishings (A+, BBB Accredited) shows 150 total complaints in the last 3 years and 38 filed in the last 12 months, with 2.08 out of 5 stars from 75 customer reviews. The CFPB database lists 93 complaints under "RC Willey" since February 2021, 25 of them received since October 11, 2025, all with the response "Closed with explanation." The two sources measure different things and are not added together; complaints are consumer submissions, not findings.

Who owns RC Willey?

Berkshire Hathaway's Form 10-K for fiscal 2025 lists R.C. Willey Home Furnishings among Berkshire's home furnishings retailing businesses, together with Nebraska Furniture Mart, Star Furniture and Jordan's Furniture, and describes R.C. Willey as based in Salt Lake City with ten full-line retail stores and three distribution centers. The 10-K does not give the year or terms of the acquisition in the text checked. RC Willey's own About page tells the family-founder story starting in 1932.
