Mint Mobile cancel, refund, Auto Renew, billing disputes, unlocking and how to complain: what Mint's own pages say (checked October 6, 2026)
Mint Mobile's own pages, opened on October 6, 2026, set out the routes below. They are Mint's wording, not our assessment. This site's archive has no approved complaint posts naming Mint Mobile, so the sections below rest on Mint's published terms, regulator and court documents, and review-site figures as displayed on October 6, 2026.
Contacting Mint. Mint's help article “How do I contact Mint Mobile?” says: “please call our Mint support team by dialing 611 from your Mint phone or 800-683-7392, or chat with us at mintmobile.com/chat. Our customer care humans are available 7 days a week 5AM-7PM PST.” The Help Center page also says its “Fox Bot is available 24/7.”
Cancelling and refunds. The Plan Terms & Conditions (last updated June 9, 2026), Section 4.1, say a customer may cancel at any time but “except as otherwise required by applicable law and our Return Policy, you will not receive any refund of amounts paid to us in connection with any such Service plan.” The Return Policy for purchases made directly on mintmobile.com says: “Refund and cancellation requests can be made for any reason within seven (7) calendar days of activation. The full purchase price and any associated taxes and fees will be refunded,” provided the purchase was made directly from mintmobile.com and the refund request form on the Return Policy page was completed; “You are not required to physically return the SIM kit.” Purchases from third-party retailers fall under that retailer's policy. Mint's help article on the 7-Day Money Back Guarantee adds that shipping is not refunded and that unused SIM cards are accepted “within 10 days of purchase” in unopened packaging, while the Return Policy page states a seven-day window for SIM kit returns after delivery; the two Mint pages differ on that point and both are shown here.
Multi-month plans. Section 16.3 of the Terms says that if Mint suspends or terminates service on a prepaid multi-month plan, “we will refund a pro rata portion of your Service fee for any then-remaining 30-day Service period(s) within your Service plan, not including the 30-day Service period in which we suspend or terminate your Service.” For a 30-day plan that Mint terminates or suspends, “you will not receive any refund.” The terms do not set out, for a customer who cancels after the seven days, a pro rata refund of a multi-month plan; the Terms refer to the Return Policy. Mint's help article “Can I pause my Mint Mobile service?” answers: “No, unfortunately pausing your service is not possible.”
Auto Renew and expiry. Mint's help article says Auto Renewal charges “the same card you purchased your plan with once your current plan is up for renewal,” that Mint notifies customers by text and email 30 days in advance, and that “Any changes to your plan or Auto Renewal cancellations must be made at least 24 hours prior to your scheduled Auto Renewal date.” The Terms (Section 9.2) say Auto Renew can be cancelled by calling (800) 683-7392 or in account preferences on the website, “24 hours prior to the end of your payment cycle.” If Auto Renewal is off and the plan is not renewed, “your account will go into suspension”; under Section 9.1 an account may be cancelled if service has expired without a renewal payment and no renewal has been paid for 60 days or more while suspended, and “we may reassign the phone number associated with your account.”
Disputing a charge. Terms Section 12.1: customers agree to notify Mint of a billing dispute “within sixty (60) days” of first receiving the disputed bill or charge; the notice must be in writing with supporting documentation or the customer “may not pursue a claim in arbitration or in court”; and, except for Puerto Rico customers, “you must pay disputed Charges until the dispute is resolved.” It also says that if a customer accepts a credit or refund to resolve a dispute, the customer agrees “that the issue is fully and finally resolved.”
Arbitration. Section 2 of the Terms requires, in capital letters, individual binding arbitration or small claims court and waives jury trials and class actions. Before filing, a customer must send a written Notice of Dispute to Mint Mobile Customer Relations, P.O. Box 37380, Albuquerque, NM 87176-7380, with the account holder's name, account number, phone number, a description, supporting documents, a good-faith damages calculation and the relief sought. A search of the Terms text for an arbitration opt-out found none on October 6, 2026.
Phone unlocking. Mint's Device Unlock Policy (last updated June 25, 2024) says a device purchased in full is locked for 60 days after activation, and that Mint will unlock devices automatically “to the extent technically feasible” or give instructions; customers with questions can call (800) 683-7392. The Device must also not be reported stolen, lost, or associated with fraudulent activity, and any phone number on it must not be associated with fraudulent activity; the policy also says Mint may request proof of purchase. Deployed military personnel with deployment papers can request an unlock at any time.
Where to complain outside the company. The FCC's guide “Filing an Informal Complaint” says to go to fcc.gov/complaints, or call 1-888-CALL-FCC (1-888-225-5322), and that “Before filing a complaint with the FCC, you should try to resolve the issue with your provider”; if the FCC serves a complaint on a provider, “The service provider must respond within 30 days.” The FTC takes reports of “bad business practices” at ReportFraud.ftc.gov and says it cannot resolve individual reports. Your state attorney general and state public utility commission also take telecommunications complaints.
Regulators and advertising reviewers: FCC order on the T-Mobile transfer and BBB National Programs (NARB) decisions
Government action. In the sources checked on October 6, 2026 (web searches for FTC, FCC and state attorney general actions naming Mint Mobile, the FCC order below, and T-Mobile's Form 10-Q for June 30, 2026), no FTC, FCC or state attorney general enforcement action or consent order naming Mint Mobile, LLC as respondent was identified. Absence from those sources is not a finding that none exists.
FCC approval of the T-Mobile acquisition (April 2024). In FCC Memorandum Opinion and Order DA 24-387 (adopted April 24, 2024, released April 25, 2024; GN Docket No. 23-171), the FCC's International Bureau and Wireless Telecommunications Bureau approved “subject to conditions” the transfer of control of international section 214 authorizations held by Mint Mobile and UVNV, Inc. (Ultra Mobile) from Ka'ena Corporation to T-Mobile. The order says T-Mobile “has, subject to certain conditions and limitations, committed to implementing a 60-day unlocking period for all Mint Mobile and Ultra Mobile devices activated on the T-Mobile network both pre- and post-closing,” to automatic unlocking of devices that can be unlocked automatically after 60 days, and to ensuring within two years of closing that new Mint and Ultra devices can unlock automatically, with notice to covered customers by text message at no cost. The FCC “adopt[ed] the commitments as conditions for our approval.” This is a merger approval, not an enforcement action or a finding of wrongdoing.
Advertising reviews by BBB National Programs (self-regulatory, not government). The National Advertising Review Board (NARB), the appellate body of BBB National Programs, issued three recommendations about Mint Mobile, LLC advertising. Its recommendations are not court orders or government penalties. (1) In a decision announced December 21, 2021, after a challenge by AT&T Services, Inc. at the National Advertising Division, the panel “recommended that Mint Mobile LLC discontinue the use of ‘UNLIMITED’ and ‘UNLTD’ headlines in its advertising or modify them to clearly communicate that its plan does not offer unlimited high-speed data”; Mint said it “supports the self-regulatory process and will comply with NARB’s decision, although it disagrees with the Panel’s conclusions.” (2) NARB Case #7250-324, announced November 28, 2023, after a challenge by AT&T Services, Inc. at the National Advertising Division: the panel recommended that Mint “discontinue the claim that its Unlimited plan is ‘now just $15/mo.’ or clearly and conspicuously disclose that the offer is a promotional or introductory offer for the first three months of service”; Mint said the challenged advertising “was discontinued last month” and that it would comply should it use the claim again. (3) NARB Case #7231-327, announced February 8, 2024, after a challenge by Verizon Communications Inc.: the panel recommended that Mint “discontinue promoting its plans using a cost-per-month price or modify such claims to disclose the required prepaid or upfront total cost of the plan,” discontinue the claim that it “cut out the cost of retail service and passed those sweet savings directly to you,” and discontinue certain social media posts about Verizon. The panel noted that for the advertised $15 per month promotional plan Mint “failed to consistently clearly and conspicuously disclose that consumers are required to prepay the entire $45 for three months of service.” Mint said it would comply, while disagreeing with the panel's recommendation about some of the social media posts, and the panel agreed with Mint that “#verizonsucks” standing alone can be viewed as opinion and puffery.
Mint Mobile LLC: a prepaid MVNO on the T-Mobile network, owned by T-Mobile since May 1, 2024
Mint Mobile, LLC says in its Terms that it provides the service “including its affiliates, assigns and agents.” The FCC's April 2024 order describes Mint Mobile as “a non-facilities-based MVNO” (a mobile virtual network operator that does not own its own network) and says “Both Mint Mobile and Ultra Mobile operate exclusively on the T-Mobile network.” Mint's coverage page says “Mint Mobile is on the T-Mobile network.”
Relationship with T-Mobile, stated from Mint's side. T-Mobile US, Inc.'s Form 10-Q for the quarter ended June 30, 2026 says T-Mobile agreed on March 9, 2023 to acquire 100 percent of Ka'ena Corporation and its subsidiaries, including Mint Mobile LLC, for a maximum purchase price of $1.35 billion, and that on May 1, 2024 “Ka'ena became a wholly owned subsidiary of T-Mobile.” Before closing, the FCC order said Ka'ena, a Maine corporation headquartered in Costa Mesa, California, held a 53 percent controlling interest in Mint Mobile. Mint Mobile is therefore a T-Mobile subsidiary; its own Network Management Policy (last updated June 10, 2026) says “T-Mobile and Mint Mobile are now part of the same family.” Mint's contract is with Mint Mobile, LLC (its Terms name no T-Mobile entity as the contracting party), and T-Mobile has its own profile on this site; cases and regulator actions against T-Mobile are listed there, not here.
Sister brand. The same FCC order says UVNV, Inc., which operates the Ultra Mobile brand, was a wholly owned subsidiary of Ka'ena and was part of the same transfer of control. Mint and Ultra are separate brands.
How the service is sold. Mint sells prepaid plans in multi-month terms. The Terms say one month equals 30 days, that plans must be activated within 45 days of purchase, and that Mint-branded plans have a data-prioritization practice: customers who use more than 50GB in a monthly cycle on most plans “will have their data usage prioritized below the data usage ... of other customers at times and at locations where there are competing customer demands for network resources.”
Data incidents. BleepingComputer reported on December 22, 2023 that Mint Mobile was notifying customers by email of “a security incident we recently identified in which an unauthorized actor obtained some limited types of customer information,” which the report says included names, telephone numbers, email addresses, SIM serial numbers, IMEI numbers and a service plan description; the same report says Mint “previously suffered a data breach in 2021” in which phone numbers were ported to another carrier without authorization. This is a press report of Mint's notice; we did not locate the Mint notice itself on a Mint page in the sources checked on October 6, 2026.

Mint Mobile lawsuits: May v. Mint Mobile (C.D. Cal.) and other dockets
Consumer class action pending in federal court (C.D. Cal.). May v. Mint Mobile, LLC, No. 8:25-cv-00731 (C.D. Cal.), was removed from the Superior Court of California, County of Orange (case no. 30-2025-01464892-CU-NP-CXC) on April 9, 2025; the docket records the original complaint as filed in state court on March 5, 2025 and the first amended complaint (July 10, 2025) as brought by plaintiffs Greg May and Natalie Fliegelman. A separate case, Fliegelman v. Mint Mobile, LLC, No. 2:25-cv-01512 (E.D. Cal.), was removed on May 30, 2025 and closed after a notice of voluntary dismissal filed July 10, 2025. In the May case, Mint moved to dismiss the amended complaint on August 11, 2025; on September 15, 2025 the court stayed the case pending mediation; on November 12, 2025 the court denied the motion to dismiss without prejudice to refiling and kept the case stayed until mediation concludes. The most recent docket entry in the CourtListener RECAP copy opened on October 6, 2026 is dated January 30, 2026 (a change of attorney contact notice), and RECAP may not show every PACER entry. The docket entries available to us do not state the claims, and we do not infer them. Mint has not been found liable for anything in this case.
Other dockets. CourtListener's index also lists Kaidi v. Mint Mobile, LLC, No. 4:26-cv-04327 (N.D. Cal.), where a notice of removal was filed May 11, 2026; per the Justia docket mirror (last retrieved September 14, 2026) the plaintiff filed an amended complaint on July 8, 2026, Mint had filed a motion to dismiss on June 17, 2026 and, on July 9, 2026, the court ordered Mint to show cause why that motion should not be terminated as moot in light of the amended complaint, and a September 14, 2026 order (Filing 36) granted a stipulation and set an initial case management conference for October 29, 2026; the case is pending and no liability finding has been made. Also listed is Marz v. Mint Mobile, LLC, No. 9:26-cv-80459 (S.D. Fla.), removed April 21, 2026 and classified by the court as an Americans with Disabilities matter. The entries opened do not state outcomes, and we do not characterize them. Two earlier individual cases, Tavarez v. Mint Mobile, LLC (S.D.N.Y. 1:21-cv-09958, filed November 24, 2021) and Fraser v. Mint Mobile, LLC (N.D. Cal. 3:22-cv-00138, filed January 10, 2022), ended after dismissal papers were filed (Tavarez: plaintiff's notices of voluntary dismissal dated March 29, April 1 and May 2, 2022; Fraser: a joint stipulation of voluntary dismissal with prejudice filed October 19, 2022); their docket entries do not state the claims either.
Mint's Terms contain a mandatory individual arbitration clause and a class action waiver (see the practical section above); whether those terms apply to a given claim is for a court or arbitrator to decide.
Is Mint Mobile Legitimate?
Mint Mobile, LLC is a limited liability company that provides prepaid wireless service under the Mint Mobile brand, and its Terms name it as the contracting provider. An April 2024 FCC order lists an international section 214 authorization held by Mint Mobile, LLC and describes the service as operating exclusively on the T-Mobile network. T-Mobile US, Inc.'s SEC filing says Mint Mobile LLC became part of T-Mobile on May 1, 2024. BBB lists the business as a limited liability company on file since 2017 and shows a B- grade, not accredited, with 2,133 complaints in the last 3 years as displayed on October 7, 2026. In the sources checked that day, no FTC, FCC or state attorney general enforcement action against Mint Mobile, LLC was identified; the documented items are an FCC merger-approval order with unlocking conditions, three BBB National Programs advertising recommendations about “UNLIMITED” headlines and prepaid pricing claims, and a pending consumer class action whose claims are not stated on the docket. These are records, not a verdict from us. Mint says it provides a refund within seven days of activation for purchases made directly on mintmobile.com, and review platforms show wide differences in customer ratings.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who owns Mint Mobile?
T-Mobile US, Inc.'s Form 10-Q for the quarter ended June 30, 2026 says that on May 1, 2024 Ka'ena Corporation and its subsidiaries, including Mint Mobile LLC, became a wholly owned subsidiary of T-Mobile. Mint's own Network Management Policy says “T-Mobile and Mint Mobile are now part of the same family.” The customer contract named in Mint's Terms is with Mint Mobile, LLC. T-Mobile has its own profile on this site.
How do I cancel Mint Mobile, and do I get a refund?
Mint's Terms say customers may cancel at any time but, except as the Return Policy or law requires, get no refund of amounts paid. The Return Policy gives a refund of the full purchase price, taxes and fees for requests made within seven calendar days of activation for purchases made directly on mintmobile.com, using the refund request form on that page. Auto Renew can be turned off by calling (800) 683-7392 or in account preferences, at least 24 hours before the end of the payment cycle. Mint's help article says pausing service is not possible.
How does Mint Mobile Auto Renewal work, and how do I turn it off?
Mint's help article says Auto Renewal charges the card used to buy the plan when the plan comes up for renewal, that text and email reminders go out 30 days in advance, and that changes or cancellations must be made at least 24 hours before the scheduled renewal date. It can be switched off in the Mint app or on the account page under Payment. If Auto Renewal is off and the plan is not renewed, the account is suspended; the Terms say an account suspended for 60 days or more without a renewal payment may be cancelled and the number reassigned.
How long do I have to dispute a charge on Mint Mobile?
Section 12.1 of Mint's Terms says to notify Mint of a billing dispute within 60 days after first receiving the disputed bill or charge, in writing with supporting documentation, and that outside Puerto Rico the customer must pay disputed charges until the dispute is resolved. Mint's Terms also say accepting a credit or refund resolves the issue “fully and finally.” Unresolved disputes go through the Notice of Dispute and arbitration process in Section 2.
Does Mint Mobile require arbitration and block class actions?
Section 2 of the Terms (last updated June 9, 2026) requires individual binding arbitration or small claims court, waives jury trials and class actions, and requires a written Notice of Dispute to Mint Mobile Customer Relations, P.O. Box 37380, Albuquerque, NM 87176-7380 before filing. A text search of the Terms on October 6, 2026 found no arbitration opt-out. A consumer class action, May v. Mint Mobile, LLC, is nonetheless pending in the Central District of California with a stay for mediation as of the last docket entries shown.
When can I unlock a phone bought from Mint Mobile?
Mint's Device Unlock Policy (last updated June 25, 2024) says a device bought in full stays locked for 60 days after activation, and a financed device may stay locked until the financing is paid off but not less than 60 days; Mint says it will unlock automatically where technically feasible and otherwise give instructions, or customers can call (800) 683-7392; the policy also requires that the device not be reported stolen, lost, or associated with fraudulent activity. The FCC's April 2024 order made T-Mobile's 60-day unlocking commitment for Mint and Ultra devices a condition of approving the acquisition.
Has the FTC, FCC or a state attorney general taken action against Mint Mobile?
No FTC, FCC or state attorney general enforcement action or consent order naming Mint Mobile, LLC was identified in the sources checked on October 6, 2026. The FCC did issue an order in April 2024 approving the transfer of Mint's international section 214 authorization to T-Mobile with unlocking conditions, and BBB National Programs' NARB issued three advertising recommendations (December 21, 2021 about “UNLIMITED” headlines, November 28, 2023 and February 8, 2024 about “$15/mo.” and prepaid-cost disclosures), which are self-regulatory decisions rather than government orders.
What did the advertising reviewers say about Mint Mobile's $15 a month price?
NARB, the appellate body of BBB National Programs, recommended on December 21, 2021 that Mint discontinue or modify “UNLIMITED” and “UNLTD” headlines to make clear its plan does not offer unlimited high-speed data (Mint said it would comply while disagreeing with the panel); on November 28, 2023 that Mint discontinue the claim that its Unlimited plan is “now just $15/mo.” or clearly disclose it was a first-three-months promotion, and on February 8, 2024 that Mint disclose the required prepaid total (for the advertised $15 plan, $45 for three months) when advertising cost-per-month prices. Mint said it would comply, and disagreed with the panel on some social media posts about Verizon. These are self-regulatory recommendations, not court orders.
Where can I complain about Mint Mobile besides the company?
The FCC accepts informal complaints about phone service at fcc.gov/complaints or 1-888-225-5322 and says to try to resolve the issue with the provider first; if the FCC serves a complaint, the provider must respond within 30 days. The FTC takes reports at ReportFraud.ftc.gov but says it cannot resolve individual reports. Your state attorney general and state utility commission also take telecommunications complaints. The BBB takes complaints on Mint's BBB profile, which showed 2,133 complaints in the last 3 years as displayed on October 7, 2026. Each state also has its own consumer protection office, which USAGov lists for phone company complaints.
