Cancel, stop auto-renewal, get a refund or fix a double charge at Jacquie Lawson: where to go and what the company says (checked October 12, 2026)
Website memberships. The company's cancellation FAQ says that if automatic renewal is on, you need to change that option: log on, open My Details then Manage Membership, and make sure the Automatic Renewal status is set to "No". It adds: "Normally, simply switching off automatic renewal is sufficient to terminate your ecards membership on the expiry date shown," and that to cancel immediately you should contact the helpline. The Terms of use say an auto-renewal must be cancelled "no fewer than five days before the renewal date" by using the Manage Membership page, emailing [email protected] or writing to the Dewsbury address.
App subscriptions. The FAQ says an app subscription "is managed entirely by the Apple App Store or Google Play Store" and that the company is unable to cancel it; cancel in the store account that was charged.
A renewal you did not want. The FAQ "You have renewed my ecard subscription without my permission!" says the company "would only have done this if automatic renewal were enabled on your account" and offers either to keep the subscription with renewal switched off, to refund the payment, or to turn it into a gift membership; it asks you to use the helpline form and quote the transaction reference from the renewal confirmation email.
A double charge. The FAQ "Why did you charge me twice?!" asks you first to check for an overlooked gift membership, then to use the helpline with reference numbers, amounts and dates (last four card digits only). If the extra charge was an exact duplicate, the company says you can choose a refund, an extension, or a gift membership.
Contact route. The Help Centre lists a helpline form, live chat and [email protected], and says: "We are very sorry but we do not offer assistance by telephone."
If the company does not resolve a card charge. The FTC's consumer article on disputing credit card charges says to write to the card issuer so the letter arrives within 60 days after the first bill with the error was sent, that the issuer must acknowledge within 30 days and resolve within 90 days, and that unresolved problems can be reported at ReportFraud.ftc.gov. Keep the confirmation emails and screenshots of the Manage Membership page. The FTC article also lists filing a complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (consumerfinance.gov/complaint). Outside the U.S., the Privacy Policy names the Information Commissioner's Office for data-protection complaints, and Citizens Advice's consumer service page lists a consumer helpline, 0808 223 1133, whose advisers can pass information about complaints on to Trading Standards.
How long a renewal lasts: two company pages worded differently. The Terms of use say: "at the end of the current membership period We will charge Your card the then-current price for another 12 month period of membership." The Prices page's automatic-renewal explanation says: "we will renew your membership automatically on expiry for a further period of membership according to your original selection." Ask the helpline which applies to your plan, especially for a one-month membership.
Test transaction. The Terms of use say that for card payments "the Company will send a small test transaction through Your credit or debit card account" to check the card is valid, and that this "is not a charge, and will fall off Your account in approximately 72 hours".
Payment methods and currencies. FAQ 3453 lists credit card, debit card, PayPal or Apple Pay for website purchases and says app subscriptions are bought through the Apple App Store or Google Play and are subject to the store's terms. The Prices page lists fees in US dollars, pounds sterling (£6.00 for one month, £27.00 for one year), euros, Canadian dollars and Australian dollars; the FAQ says some EU/EEA members who joined before January 2021 continue to be charged in USD on renewal.
App-store refunds. Apple's support page says to sign in at reportaproblem.apple.com and choose "Request a refund"; Google Play's help page says "Your past subscriptions can't be refunded, with some exceptions" described in its article.
Who runs Jacquie Lawson: Microcourt Limited of Dewsbury, England
The Terms of use define the operator as "Microcourt Limited, a company registered in England and trading as jacquielawson.com", with a postal address at Mill Street East, Dewsbury, West Yorkshire WF12 9AW, United Kingdom, and say the agreement is governed by English law with the courts of England and Wales having exclusive jurisdiction (with extra venues for residents of Northern Ireland and Scotland). Companies House lists MICROCOURT LIMITED (company number 04309397) as an active private limited company incorporated on 23 October 2001, with its registered office at "Uk Greetings", Mill Street East, Dewsbury. Its persons-with-significant-control page lists one active individual controller (resident in the United States, notified 3 February 2025). Earlier entries on that page list a corporate controller, A G Interactive Inc, from 6 April 2016 to 6 April 2018, with an address at 1 American Boulevard, Cleveland, Ohio; a second individual controller holding control as a member of a firm, from 6 April 2018 to 17 August 2020; and a statement, from 25 August 2020 to 2 February 2025, that the company knew of no registrable person or registrable relevant legal entity. Companies House's filing history also lists a confirmation statement made on 1 October 2026 "with updates" (filed 2 October 2026); its content was not opened. This page does not draw conclusions about ownership from these entries.
Product and pricing. The company says Jacquie Lawson, "an English artist living in the picturesque village of Lurgashall," sent an animated Christmas card to friends in 2000 and that in February 2002 the site jacquielawson.com was created. Its Prices page, as displayed on 2026-10-12, lists US-dollar membership fees of $8.00 for one month, $36.00 for one year, $50.00 for two years and $54.00 for the Blue Mountain bundle, adding "Taxes may apply", and says the site is "funded by membership fees only" with no advertising. Archive complaints on this site from 2009-2011 cite $12 and $18 membership prices of that time.
Blue Mountain bundle. The Terms of use contain separate terms for a "Jacquie Lawson & Blue Mountain Membership Bundle", described as a joint offering of American Greetings Corporation (Ohio) and Microcourt Limited. For the Bundle, the terms say the liability of the two companies is joint and several. For U.S. residents the Bundle terms say Ohio law applies and that disputes with American Greetings "will be resolved by binding, individual arbitration" under American Arbitration Association rules for consumer-related disputes, with a jury-trial and class-action waiver; for residents outside the United States and Canada they say English law applies with the courts of England and Wales having non-exclusive jurisdiction. The Bundle has an initial period of 12 months and a 14-day cooling-off period for residents outside the United States and Canada or for those who started through the Jacquie Lawson site, plus a 14-day "renewal cooling-off period" after each auto-renewal; the refund is "less a reasonable sum to reflect any Ecards sent by You during the cooling-off period" and the terms add that "no refund may be available", with refunds made within 14 days of receipt of the termination notice. Those Bundle terms differ from the standard ecards membership terms above them; read the terms that match what you bought.
Data retention. The Privacy Policy (section 8) says personal data is kept "for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes we collected it for" and that details of retention periods are in a retention policy that can be requested from the company; it also names the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) as the UK data-protection supervisory authority for complaints.
Complaint record: archive posts, BBB and Trustpilot as displayed on October 12, 2026
This site's archive. Five approved complaints from 2009-2011 are linked to this profile. By hand reading: three describe an unexpected or renewal charge (one says a charge went through after the writer left the checkout page; one says a renewal was charged to a second card; one says $12 was debited in two successive Decembers after the account was closed), two describe a duplicate charge, and five describe an unanswered, delayed or form-letter reply, or no available way to reach the company. These are single-writer allegations and are not summed with BBB or Trustpilot figures.
BBB. The BBB profile for "Microcourt Ltd. dba Jacquie Lawson Cards" (Chicago, IL) shows, as displayed on 2026-10-12: not BBB Accredited; rating F; 15 total complaints in the last 3 years and 5 filed in the last 12 months; an alert titled "Pattern of Complaints"; and, as reasons for the rating, "Failure to respond to 13 complaint(s) filed against business" and "Business has failed to resolve underlying cause(s) of a pattern of complaints". The reviews tab shows 1.57 out of 5 from an average of 7 customer reviews; the three newest reviews (dated December 2024 to June 2025) mention auto-renewal and difficulty cancelling, and the newest complaint listed on the complaints tab is dated 03/15/2026. BBB's raw page data lists the file as opened on 2008-07-31. BBB's own caveat applies: the number and nature of complaints and the company's responses matter more than the count alone.
Trustpilot. The Trustpilot page for www.jacquielawson.com shows 1.6 stars from 1,102 reviews and is an unclaimed profile. Trustpilot notes it does not fact-check reviews. Reviews shown on 2026-10-12 include ones dated October 10 and 11, 2026 about card search results and gift delivery; they are single-reviewer allegations.
Regulators and courts. On 2026-10-12 a search of CourtListener's RECAP archive for "Jacquie Lawson" or "Microcourt Limited" returned one unrelated case in which a person of that name appears in a hospital document, and no case naming the company; a later check through CourtListener's API on the same day was refused as rate-limited and was not repeated. The FTC site search and U.S. state attorney-general databases were not completed in this check, and PACER itself was not searched; no enforcement action or class action against the company was identified in the sources actually checked.
Is Jacquie Lawson Legitimate?
Jacquie Lawson is a trading name of Microcourt Limited, an active English private limited company (company number 04309397, incorporated 23 October 2001) with a registered office in Dewsbury and a published Terms of use, privacy policy, help centre and contact email. The company says it has operated jacquielawson.com since 2002 and that it is funded by subscriptions rather than advertising. Separately, the BBB profile shows an F rating and an alert, and Trustpilot shows 1.6 stars from 1,102 reviews on an unclaimed profile (both as displayed on 2026-10-12). This page records those facts without scoring the business. The three newest BBB reviews (December 2024 to June 2025) and this site's archive posts concern automatic renewal and billing, which the company's FAQ addresses by directing members to switch off Automatic Renewal in Manage Membership.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I cancel a Jacquie Lawson membership?
The company's FAQ says website memberships are stopped by setting Automatic Renewal to "No" under My Details, Manage Membership; the membership then expires on the date shown. App subscriptions are managed by the Apple App Store or Google Play and must be cancelled there. The Terms of use say to cancel an auto-renewal no fewer than five days before the renewal date.
Why was my card charged for a renewal, and how do I stop it?
The company's FAQ says it would only renew if automatic renewal were enabled on the account, and it offers to refund the payment, keep the membership with renewal switched off, or convert the payment to a gift membership. Ask through the helpline form and quote the transaction reference from the renewal confirmation email. The Bundle terms say a reminder is sent at least 14 days before auto-renewal; the standard Terms of use do not state a reminder period, while the FAQ says a renewal reminder is sent.
What does Jacquie Lawson say to do about a double charge?
The FAQ asks you to check for gift memberships you may have bought, then contact the helpline with reference numbers, amounts and transaction dates (only the last four card digits). If the charge was an exact duplicate of the membership payment, it says you can choose a refund, an extension of the membership, or a gift membership.
How do I contact Jacquie Lawson?
The Help Centre offers a helpline form, live chat and [email protected], plus private messages on Facebook or Instagram, and states that it does not offer assistance by telephone. Letters can go to Microcourt Limited, UKG/Microcourt Mailroom, Mill Street East, Dewsbury, West Yorkshire WF12 9AW, United Kingdom, per the Terms of use.
What is the Jacquie Lawson refund policy?
The Terms of use say a membership may be cancelled at any time by writing to the company and that the money is "fully refunded if the Company receives your request within the time prescribed by law (this varies depending on where You live)"; otherwise the membership ends on a date set by the company according to its price list. The FAQ separately offers refunds of unwanted renewals. Where two company pages differ, quote both to the helpline and ask which applies to your purchase.
Is Jacquie Lawson free to use?
The company's FAQ says that anyone who has subscribed, bought a digital product such as an Advent Calendar, or registered through the ecards app is a free member who can log on, keep an address book and check order history. It says sending the full range of cards requires a paid subscription, that a limited selection of a few ecards can be sent free through the app, and "the free ecards are only available in the app, not on the website". The Prices page lists paid plans from $8.00 for one month as displayed on 2026-10-12.
Who operates Jacquie Lawson and which law applies?
The Terms of use name Microcourt Limited, registered in England, as the operator trading as jacquielawson.com, and apply English law with the courts of England and Wales. The separate Blue Mountain Bundle terms name American Greetings Corporation, an Ohio corporation, as a joint provider. For U.S. residents they apply Ohio law and binding individual arbitration under American Arbitration Association consumer rules for disputes with American Greetings, with a class-action waiver; for residents outside the U.S. and Canada they apply English law with non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
