General Mills: how to report a product problem, ask for a refund or contact the company (checked October 18, 2026)
People searching this page are usually holding a General Mills product (a Cheerios box, a can of Progresso soup, a Pillsbury product or a Betty Crocker mix) that looks wrong, or want to know where to send a complaint. The routes below come from the company's and agencies' own pages opened on October 18, 2026; check them for current wording.
- Company contact: General Mills' Contact us page lists an online contact form ("Submit your question", which links to contactus.generalmills.com), a phone line ("Give us a call 1-800-248-7310") and an "Ask General Mills" FAQ site ("Read our FAQs", ask.generalmills.com). That page does not state a refund or replacement policy; ask the company directly what it will do for your product.
- Keep the evidence: keep the package, the best-by date and lot code printed on it, the receipt, and the object itself, and take photographs before discarding anything. This is practical advice, not a company requirement.
- Report to a regulator: the FDA's "Consumer Complaint Coordinators" page says all FDA centers receive reports directly and points to its SmartHub (Report a Problem) webpage, or the phone line 1-888-INFO-FDA. The FDA page is general and does not mention General Mills.
- Yoplait: if your complaint is about Yoplait or Go-GURT yogurt sold in the U.S., note that yoplait.com now shows "© 2026 Lactalis US Yogurt, Inc." in its footer, and General Mills' fiscal 2026 annual report says it sold its U.S. yogurt business to Groupe Lactalis S.A. (see the background section). The description of the yoplait.com Contact Us page reads "Please contact us at 1-800-754-3517 and our team will be happy to assist you." Use that page or number for yogurt questions.
FDA Enforcement Report entries for General Mills products (checked October 18, 2026)
The FDA publishes recall classifications in its Enforcement Report, which is also available through the openFDA database. A search of that database for the recalling firm "General Mills" on October 18, 2026 returned 41 food records; selected entries are summarised below as the FDA lists them (newest first).
- June 2026, Pillsbury bread roll dough (H-1154-2026 and H-1155-2026): case-packed frozen dough: hard roll dough (180 units of 2.25 oz per case, 3,080 cases) and Kaiser roll dough (144 units of 2.5 oz per case, 1,260 cases), each marked "Keep Frozen". Reason: "Potential foreign material (glass)". Class II (classification date 2026-07-13). Codes listed: "Better if Used by OCT 12 26 / Lot: 11JUN6JL" and "OCT 13 26 / Lot: 12JUN6JL" for the hard rolls, "OCT 13 26 / Lot: 12JUN6JL" for the Kaiser rolls. Recall initiated 2026-06-19, reported by the FDA 2026-07-22; status "Ongoing"; distribution listed in 19 states (AR, CA, FL, GA, IN, LA, ME, MO, NM, NY, OH, OK, PA, SC, TN, TX, VA, WA, WY). A FOX 5 New York report of July 17, 2026 quotes General Mills as saying it recalled "two frozen dough products baked onsite and sold exclusively at Walmart in-store bakeries in the United States" and that the recall is "limited in scope, highly contained and all potential impacted product has been removed". On the company's description these were bakery products, not retail dough cans.
- April 2023, Gold Medal flour (F-0919-2023 and F-0920-2023): Gold Medal Unbleached and Bleached All Purpose Flour. Reason: "Flour has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella." Class I, nationwide, recall initiated 2023-04-28, reported 2023-05-24; status "Terminated".
- May 2022, dibz Lunch Blox (F-1280-2022): reason "Potential Salmonella contamination." Class I, 20 units, recall initiated 2022-05-22, reported 2022-06-15; status "Terminated".
- Earlier entries in the same search: a 5-lb Gold Medal Unbleached All Purpose flour recall for potential E. coli O26 (F-0010-2020, reported October 2019, Class II); a Gold Medal 5-lb flour recall for potential Salmonella (F-0844-2019, reported February 2019, Class II); Cheerios Protein Oats & Honey for potential Salmonella (F-1788-2018, reported August 2018, Class II); Cascadian Farm Organic Cinnamon Raisin Granola for undeclared allergen (F-0037-2018, reported November 2017, Class I); and, in October 2015, Cheerios and Honey Nut Cheerios (F-0095-2016 and F-0096-2016, Class II, 101,706 cases and 9,269 pallets), where the entry says the firm was "recalling several days of production of Cheerios and Honey Nut Cheerios Cereal because of undeclared wheat".
- 2016 flour recalls and outbreak (F-2212-2016 to F-2221-2016, Class I, reported September 2016): the CDC's outbreak notice (posted September 29, 2016, still hosted on CDC's archive) reports that 63 people infected with the outbreak strains of STEC O121 or STEC O26 were reported from 24 states and 17 ill people were hospitalized. It says epidemiologic, laboratory and traceback evidence "indicated that flour produced at a General Mills facility in Kansas City, Missouri was the likely source of this outbreak", and that recalled flour and flour products "may still be in people's homes". The CDC also states that it is not safe to taste or eat raw dough or batter.
These are recalls initiated by the firm, not findings of wrongdoing by a court or agency. To check whether a product you hold is covered, compare its product name, size and lot code with the notice on the FDA's recall pages or with General Mills' own notice; this page does not list every recalled product.
Who General Mills is and what happened to the Yoplait brand
General Mills, Inc. is a publicly traded Delaware corporation whose common stock is listed on the New York Stock Exchange under "GIS"; the SEC lists its business address as 1 General Mills Blvd, Minneapolis, Minnesota. The company's own website says it "started as a flour mill in Minneapolis, Minnesota" and has been "making food the world loves since 1866"; it also says it has more than 100 brands sold in over 100 countries and employs more than 30,000 people worldwide. It names Cheerios, Progresso, Old El Paso, Annie's and Blue Buffalo pet food among its brands; its brands page also lists Betty Crocker, Bisquick, Chex and Cinnamon Toast Crunch.
For the fiscal year ended May 31, 2026, the annual report (Form 10-K) states consolidated net sales of $18.4 billion.
Yoplait. Several older posts on this site concern Yoplait yogurt, which General Mills made at the time. In its fiscal 2026 10-K (fiscal year ended May 31, 2026; the first quarter of fiscal 2026 ran from late May to late August 2025), the company says: "During the first quarter of fiscal 2026, we completed the sale of our United States yogurt business to Groupe Lactalis S.A." and that in the third quarter of fiscal 2025 it completed the sale of its Canada yogurt business to Sodiaal International. The Yoplait website's footer now reads "© 2026 Lactalis US Yogurt, Inc." and says Yoplait and Go-GURT are trademarks of YOPLAIT MARQUES (France) "used under license". Complaints about U.S. Yoplait yogurt made today are therefore directed at the current operator, not General Mills; this page covers the earlier General Mills period.
Recent company news (company press releases). On September 3, 2026 General Mills announced that it "has completed the sale of its business in Brazil to 3corações", including brands such as Yoki and Kitano; this concerns Brazil, not U.S. products. On September 30, 2026 it announced that its board elected Dana McNabb, currently Chief Operating Officer, to succeed Jeff Harmening as Chief Executive Officer, with Mr. Harmening becoming executive chair; both appointments are effective January 1, 2027.
Brands versus this page. This page covers General Mills, Inc. and posts that name it or its brands as sold by it. Sister brands that other companies now own or license are not covered unless a post names General Mills.
What the complaints on this site and the external profiles show
This site. 19 approved posts in our archive are linked to this page: 18 name General Mills in the company field (several as "Progresso Soups / General Mills Inc") and one names Yoplait only. They are dated between 2003 and 2013 and are consumer allegations that General Mills has not been shown to have confirmed. Counting by keyword: 13 describe a foreign object in food (insects, plastic, glass, metal, a fake fingernail), 3 concern a product change, ingredient or availability, 2 describe spoiled or damaged packaging, and 1 describes an allergic-type reaction. A post can be counted once only. Several of these posts are many years old, and the products and processes they describe may have changed.
External profiles, as displayed on October 18, 2026. On the BBB profile for General Mills, Inc. in Minneapolis the company is not BBB Accredited and has a letter rating of A-, with the reason shown as "Failure to respond to 1 complaint(s) filed against business". The complaints tab shows 62 total complaints in the last 3 years and 23 filed in the last 12 months, and the reviews tab shows a 1 out of 5 star average from 11 customer reviews. BBB's profile still lists former executives in its management section, which this page does not repeat. Trustpilot shows an unclaimed profile for generalmills.com with 4 reviews and a 2.8 average, with a note that the company has no history of asking customers for reviews, so the reviews may not be representative. These figures come from different sources and are not combined with each other or with our own post count.
Is General Mills Legitimate?
General Mills, Inc. is an SEC registrant with an identifiable headquarters and a listed ticker (GIS), and it publishes a consumer phone line and online contact form. Its annual report for the year ended May 31, 2026 says it is "the subject of various pending or threatened legal actions in the ordinary course of our business" and that, in its opinion, no claims or litigation pending as of May 31, 2026 were reasonably likely to have a material adverse effect on its consolidated financial position or results of operations.
The relevant questions for a shopper are narrower: whether a particular product is covered by a recall (see the FDA entries above), whether the company responds to your report, and, for Yoplait, which company currently handles it. A complaint on this site is one consumer's account, not a finding against the company.
