Bob's Discount Furniture returns, delivery problems, Goof Proof claims and complaints: routes and policy wording (checked October 6, 2026)
The company's own site, mybobs.com, returned an "Access Denied" page to our automated browser on October 6, 2026, so its current returns, delivery and Goof Proof pages could not be read for this page. On October 7, 2026 a text renderer showed only a "Scheduled Maintenance in Progress" page for mybobs.com's returns, delivery and customer-care addresses. The wording below comes from BBB's profile (which reproduces a company-supplied policy summary), the company's SEC filings and CPSC records. Check mybobs.com and your own sales order, protection-plan documents and delivery paperwork for the current terms that apply to you.
Cancel or return. BBB's profile reproduces this "Refund and Exchange Policy" text: "Customers can cancel their order for a full refund at any time up until the day of delivery or pickup. Once furniture is accepted it can only be returned under the following exceptions: If an item has an unserviceable factory defect within one year it will be replaced." It adds that accessory items such as rugs, lamps, bed protectors and pillows "may be returned for a full refund within three days of receipt if they are in like-new condition", that a mattress can be exchanged after 30 days of sleeping on it, and that "Mattresses are refundable within 90 days of the original receipt date." For refunds, BBB's text says the company credits the card used for the original transaction or mails a check from its Home Office within 10 business days if you paid by cash, check or money order. This is BBB's reproduction of company-supplied wording, not terms we checked against the current website. The same text points to mybobs.com/returns-and-exchanges for the full policy, which we could not open.
Contact the company first. BBB's profile says a customer with a complaint "may contact the company's customer care liaison team directly by email at [email protected]". The company's site, in the maintenance page read on October 7, 2026, lists 860-474-1000 with a chat link under "Need help with an existing order?" and offers no description of a delivery-damage procedure; we could not verify any inspection deadline, rescheduling rule or delivery-fee policy. The number (860) 474-1200 in the company's SEC filings and on BBB is the registrant's headquarters number, not a verified delivery or claims line. For a delivery or damage problem, keep your order number, the promised delivery date, photographs and the names or dates of each call or email.
Goof Proof protection plan. The company's annual report describes Goof Proof as "our extended furniture protection plan" whose cost "varies by order value and includes five years of repair or replacement for stains and most accidental damage that occurs from a single incident", and says the plans "are serviced by a third-party provider". The filing does not name the provider, and we could not verify the current claims administrator, claim phone or web address, reporting deadline, exclusions or appeal route. Claims are therefore decided under your plan's own terms, so keep the plan document, claim number and every denial in writing. Federal orders in 2022 and 2024 (see the litigation section) compelled arbitration of named plaintiffs' Goof Proof-related claims; your own documents show whether arbitration terms apply to you.
Recalled furniture. If you bought a Hillsdale Furniture bunk bed, bar stool or five-drawer chest at Bob's, see the regulators section: CPSC lists Bob's as a retailer of three Hillsdale recalls and, for the 2019 chest recall, lists Bob's own phone and email for remedies.
If it is not resolved. You can file a complaint with BBB, with your state attorney general or consumer-protection office, and with the FTC. The Massachusetts Attorney General's page says its Consumer Advocacy and Response Division can help with "defective products" and gives a Consumer Hotline at (617) 727-8400. The Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection's page lists fraud, misrepresentation and misleading-advertising complaints among those it can help with and says its Department of Banking handles complaints about credit cards and consumer credit; the company's annual report says it accepts private-label credit, Affirm and Klarna among its payment methods, so a financing problem may belong with the lender or credit provider named in your paperwork (the filings we read do not name the private-label credit issuer). The FTC accepts reports at reportfraud.ftc.gov. For a product-safety incident, SaferProducts.gov (CPSC) lets the public file and read reports.
Bob's Discount Furniture regulators: CPSC recalls and enforcement checks (October 6, 2026)
CPSC recalls where Bob's is the retailer. A search of CPSC's recall database (the retailer field) for Bob's Discount Furniture on October 6, 2026 returned three recalls, each of a product made or imported by Hillsdale Furniture; in each, CPSC names Hillsdale Furniture as the importer and Bob's Discount Furniture as a retailer.
- June 2, 2016 (recall 16-751), Chadwick children's bunk beds (white model 1030; mission oak models 1245 and 1589), about 20,000 units. CPSC's title says "Sold Exclusively at Bob's Discount Furniture". Hazard: "The bunk bed's side mattress support rails can crack or break, posing a fall hazard." Remedy: CPSC says consumers "should immediately stop using the bunk beds" and contact Hillsdale (800-368-0999, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, per CPSC) "to arrange for the free installation of free replacement rails by Bob's Discount Furniture", which CPSC says was contacting known customers directly. Sold at Bob's stores and mybobs.com from August 2010 through July 2014 for about $400.
- January 18, 2018 (recall 18-715), bar stools, about 500 units (Recall Alert). Hazard: "The stool seat can loosen or break off at the base, posing a fall hazard to the user." Remedy: a full refund from Hillsdale. Bob's is one of several named retailers.
- December 18, 2019 (recall 20-041), Chadwick and Bailey five-drawer chests, about 31,000 units (and about 740 sold in Canada). Hazard: "The chests are unstable and can tip over if not anchored to the wall, posing serious tip-over and entrapment hazards that can result in death or injuries to children." Remedy: stop using any chest not anchored to the wall and contact Bob's Discount Furniture or Hillsdale for a free repair or refund; options include a free self-install repair kit, free in-home installation or free pick-up. For chests bought at Bob's, CPSC lists 800-569-1284 (6:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. ET, Monday through Saturday) or [email protected]. Sold at Bob's and other retailers from August 2010 through August 2019 for about $280.
We opened the 2019 recall page on CPSC's site; the 2016 and 2018 records were read from CPSC's recall database. CPSC warnings, SaferProducts.gov consumer reports and the company's own recall page were not checked for this page, and a current Bob's listing is not a recalled product.
Enforcement. In the sources checked on October 6, 2026 (a federal docket party search on Justia, CFPB's company-name lookup, and the legal-proceedings items of the company's 10-K and 10-Q), no FTC, CFPB or state attorney general enforcement action or consent order naming Bob's Discount Furniture was identified. The 10-K and 10-Q each say that management believes the company is "currently not a party to any legal proceedings" whose adverse outcome would have a material adverse effect. This is a statement about the sources checked, not a finding that none exists: individual state attorney-general and consumer-department databases were not each searched, and the company's own site could not be opened.
Bob's Discount Furniture background: Manchester, Connecticut retailer, NYSE listing and Bain Capital ownership
Bob's Discount Furniture describes itself in its annual report as "a rapidly growing, nationally proven omnichannel retailer of value home furnishings" and says it has operated since 1991 (company statement; BBB's page data lists a business start of March 30, 1991). Its quarterly report for the period ended June 28, 2026 says it had 218 showrooms in 27 U.S. states, up from 209 showrooms in 26 states at December 28, 2025, and that customers can shop in-store, online, by phone and through a mobile app. The annual report says the company leases six distribution centers, and the quarterly report says most purchases can be delivered in as few as three days (a company statement, not a measure of what any customer received).
Who the company is. The publicly listed parent is Bob's Discount Furniture, Inc., a Delaware corporation whose common stock began trading on the New York Stock Exchange on February 5, 2026 under the symbol BOBS; SEC records show it was previously named BDF Holding Corp. Its primary offices are at 434 Tolland Turnpike, Manchester, Connecticut (BBB lists the headquarters profile at 428 Tolland Tpke). BBB's headquarters profile is filed under "Bob's Discount Furniture LLC", and court dockets name "Bob's Discount Furniture, LLC" as the defendant or plaintiff; this site relies on those sources for the LLC name and does not independently describe how the entities are related beyond the annual report's statement that "Bob's Discount Furniture" means the Inc. and its consolidated subsidiaries.
Ownership. The annual report states: "We are controlled by Bain Capital, which owns approximately 73% of our common stock" (as of the filing in March 2026). It also says the company's founder, Bob Kaufman, was a member of the Board from 2014 until his resignation in December 2025, and that the company leases four stores from limited liability companies in which he maintained ownership. Bain Capital's advisory agreement with the company terminated on the IPO. The company also reports fees for outsourced customer-service assistance paid to an entity affiliated with Bain Capital ($7.9 million for fiscal 2025 per the annual report).
Latest filings. The company's most recent filings reviewed were the second-quarter 10-Q and 8-Ks dated August 6 and 7, 2026 (results and updated guidance). The 10-Q reports that the company received U.S. Customs and Border Protection approval for $45.1 million of refunds of tariffs imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act during the quarter, following a February 2026 Supreme Court ruling. That is a business matter between the company and the government, not a customer refund. In the SEC filing list read on October 7, 2026 the newest items are the August 6 and 7, 2026 filings, and the newest release on the company's investor-relations page (September 17, 2026) is a marketing announcement; no acquisition, consumer settlement, regulator action or data-breach notice dated after early July 2026 was identified in the SEC, CPSC, BBB and court sources checked. This is a scoped check, not a finding that none exists.
Bob's Discount Furniture complaint record: this site's archive, BBB and Trustpilot (as displayed October 7, 2026)
This site's archive. A search of this site's approved posts on October 6, 2026 found 89 older complaints linked to this page, written between 2003 and 2013 (26 of them in 2008). Eighty-three name Bob's Discount Furniture or one of its stores as the subject. Six are about a third party sold alongside Bob's furniture: five name the Guardsman protection plan bought at Bob's, and one names CitiFinancial store credit; they are linked as related, not as complaints about the retailer itself. Twelve other posts that appeared to be machine-rewritten copies, advertising text or content with no complaint were left out. The posts are consumers' unverified accounts and are from many years ago; they do not describe the company's current service.
Keyword counts across the 89 linked posts (one post can count in several groups): 50 mention delivery, 52 mention damaged or defective furniture or a stain or tear, 32 mention a protection plan or warranty, 30 mention a refund or cancellation, 52 mention customer service, and 4 mention bed bugs. These are keyword matches, not findings.
BBB. BBB's headquarters profile for Bob's Discount Furniture LLC shows rating A+, BBB Accredited, "1,402 total complaints in the last 3 years" and "427 complaints closed in the last 12 months", and a customer review score of 1.46 out of 5 with "Average of 826 Customer Reviews", as displayed on October 7, 2026 (BBB updates these totals; the view on October 6, 2026 showed 1,405 and 429). The profile says it includes complaints for the headquarters and its corporate-owned locations. BBB's page data gives accreditation on June 29, 2015 and a BBB file opened on March 26, 1993. BBB notes that the nature of complaints and a company's responses are often more important than their number and that it does not verify information from third parties.
Trustpilot. Trustpilot shows 9,194 reviews and a score of 3.5 for mybobs.com on October 7, 2026, with 282 reviews in the last 12 months, a claimed profile dated May 2018, a notice that the company "hasn't invited customers recently, so reviews may not be representative" and a note that it "hasn't replied to negative reviews". Trustpilot says it does not fact-check reviews.
BBB's and Trustpilot's figures measure different things, are not averaged or combined, and are not added to this site's own posts. A ComplaintsBoard page for the company was not located on October 6, 2026. The company's own site could not be opened, so its published statistics, awards or customer-care figures were not reviewed.
Bob's Discount Furniture litigation record: Goof Proof arbitration orders and other dockets
Glover v. Bob's Discount Furniture, LLC, No. 1:20-cv-10924 (S.D.N.Y., Judge John G. Koeltl), filed December 25, 2020 by Renal Glover. Justia's docket lists nature of suit "Other Fraud" and a jury demand by the plaintiff; the docket text we could read does not state the claims. Bloomberg Law reported on August 15, 2022 that the court allowed Bob's to compel arbitration of a proposed class action alleging misleading warranties, naming a lead plaintiff Claudia Musella. The court's memorandum opinion and order of August 12, 2022 (Filing 58) states that "the defendants' motions to compel arbitration of Musella's claims are granted", that the motions to dismiss Musella's claims "are denied as moot", and that "the defendants' motions to dismiss Glover's claims are granted without prejudice" with leave to file a third amended complaint within 30 days. The order lists Guardian Protection Products, Inc. as a co-moving defendant; the 10-K does not say who services Goof Proof plans today. The Justia docket we opened was last retrieved on August 12, 2022, so later events are not known to us. ClassAction.org's news page for the company also lists a January 4, 2021 report of a proposed class action over Goof Proof warranties and a September 27, 2021 report of "another" such action; we have not tied those reports to specific dockets.
Three later federal cases. A Justia party search on October 7, 2026 also listed three 2022 cases against Bob's Discount Furniture, LLC. All allegations below are the plaintiffs' claims, not findings.
- Wong v. Bob's Discount Furniture, LLC, No. 2:22-cv-04220 (C.D. Cal.), filed June 20, 2022 by Kenneth Wong (Justia: nature of suit "Other Fraud", diversity jurisdiction; its docket was last retrieved December 27, 2022 and lists only the opening filings). CaseMine's copy of the court's December 27, 2022 order (Judge Dale S. Fischer) is titled "Order Granting Motion to Compel Individual Arbitration" and states: "BDF's motion to compel arbitration is GRANTED. This action is stayed pending completion of the arbitration." The order describes Wong as challenging the Goof Proof plan on the ground that undisclosed exclusions made the coverage essentially meaningless, and as asserting California consumer-protection, warranty and unjust-enrichment claims; it found the arbitration provisions in the sales receipt and product terms enforceable.
- Potthoff v. Bob's Discount Furniture, LLC, No. 1:22-cv-01722 (N.D. Ill., Judge Gary Feinerman), filed April 4, 2022 by Robert Potthoff (Justia: nature of suit "Other Fraud"). A June 1, 2022 minute entry records that "By agreement" the defendant would move to compel arbitration and dismiss by June 20, 2022 and that discovery was stayed. On October 11, 2022 the plaintiff filed a notice stating "Plaintiff gives notice that this action is voluntarily dismissed" under Fed. R. Civ. P. 41(a)(1)(A)(i). The docket text and notice we read do not state the claims.
- Bolling v. Bobs Discount Furniture, LLC, No. 2:22-cv-06312 (E.D.N.Y.), filed October 19, 2022 by Betty Bolling (Justia: nature of suit "Fraud or Truth-In-Lending"; its docket, last retrieved March 27, 2024, shows only the opening entries). CaseMine's copy of the March 27, 2024 order (Judge LaShann DeArcy Hall) states: "Magistrate Judge James M. Wicks' R&R is ADOPTED in part, and Defendant's motion to compel is GRANTED." Bolling alleged that Bob's denies Goof Proof claims "based on customer misuse" and that the plan's exclusions are disclosed only after purchase; her sofa-cushion tear claim was denied by the company as "seam separation, stress tears".
These are outcomes of motions about where the claims are heard; none of the three orders we read decides whether any Goof Proof claim was wrongly denied. The Wong and Bolling orders were read on CaseMine, not on the courts' own systems.
Barnett v. Wells Fargo Bank, N.A. and Bob's Discount Furniture of Indiana, LLC, No. 1:26-cv-01252 (S.D. Ind.), filed June 12, 2026; Justia lists the cause of action as 12 U.S.C. 5536(a)(3), enforcement of the Consumer Financial Protection Act. On the docket as last retrieved July 31, 2026, a minute order records an initial pretrial conference on July 30, 2026, directs the defendants to serve a settlement response by August 13, 2026 and sets a telephonic status conference for August 20, 2026. The docket does not describe the underlying dispute, and the case is undecided as far as we could read.
Bob's Discount Furniture LLC v. United States, No. 1:26-cv-03030 (U.S. Court of International Trade), filed June 2, 2026 by the company against U.S. Customs and Border Protection. A July 23, 2026 order directs CBP to reliquidate, without regard to IEEPA duties, the plaintiff's qualifying entries, subject to conditions. This is a commercial import-duty matter filed by the company, not a consumer case.
Other dockets. A Justia federal docket party search for "Bobs Discount Furniture" on October 6, 2026 returned 79 results. The entries we reviewed on the first pages are mostly personal-injury and vehicle-accident cases removed to federal court, employment and disability-access (ADA) cases; we did not characterize every docket and none of them is described here as a consumer-protection finding. The company's 10-K notes that it is subject to claims on employment, commercial, intellectual-property and personal-injury or product-liability matters, and states that "Several class action lawsuits have been brought under BIPA, including against our business" without identifying them. All litigation allegations are the parties' claims, not findings.
Is Bob's Discount Furniture Legitimate?
Bob's Discount Furniture is an identifiable operating business: its parent, Bob's Discount Furniture, Inc., files annual and quarterly reports with the SEC, has traded on the New York Stock Exchange as BOBS since February 5, 2026, lists its offices at 434 Tolland Turnpike, Manchester, Connecticut, and reports 218 showrooms in 27 states as of June 28, 2026. BBB shows the headquarters profile (filed as Bob's Discount Furniture LLC) as BBB Accredited with an A+ rating, and the same profile displays the complaint and review figures given in the complaint record section, and Trustpilot's separate figures are in the same section.
The record also shows what customers dispute: this site's archive holds older complaints about delivery, damaged or defective furniture, refunds and Goof Proof claims, and federal orders in 2022 and 2024 sent named plaintiffs' Goof Proof-related claims to arbitration. CPSC lists Bob's as a retailer of three Hillsdale Furniture recalls. In the sources checked on October 6, 2026 no regulator enforcement action naming the company was identified, and the company's own filings say it is not party to a material legal proceeding. These facts do not predict how any individual order will go; read your order paperwork and keep written records.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I cancel an order or return furniture from Bob's Discount Furniture?
BBB's profile reproduces the company's refund and exchange summary (wording not independently verified against the current website): an order can be cancelled for a full refund "at any time up until the day of delivery or pickup"; once furniture is accepted it can be returned only under listed exceptions, including replacement of an item with an unserviceable factory defect within one year; accessories can be returned within three days if like-new; and mattresses are exchangeable after 30 days and refundable within 90 days of receipt. The full policy is at mybobs.com/returns-and-exchanges, which could not be opened on October 6, 2026, so check it and your sales order.
How do I contact Bob's Discount Furniture about a delivery or damage problem?
BBB's profile says customers may contact the customer care liaison team by email at [email protected]. On October 7, 2026 the company's site showed a maintenance page listing 860-474-1000 and a chat link for help with an existing order; its delivery and damage pages could not be read, so no delivery-claim procedure is verified here. The number (860) 474-1200 appears in SEC filings and on BBB as the headquarters number and is not a verified delivery-support line. Keep your order number, the promised and actual delivery dates, photographs and a written record of each contact. If the company does not resolve the problem, BBB, your state attorney general or consumer office and the FTC accept complaints.
What is Bob's Goof Proof and who handles the claims?
The company's annual report calls Goof Proof "our extended furniture protection plan" and says its cost "varies by order value and includes five years of repair or replacement for stains and most accidental damage that occurs from a single incident". It adds that the plans "are serviced by a third-party provider" without naming it. Coverage, exclusions and claim steps are in your plan document; older complaints on this site from 2005 to 2012 name Guardsman as the plan provider, and a 2022 court order names Guardian Protection Products, Inc. as a co-defendant in a case about warranty claims. Court orders in 2022 and 2024 compelled arbitration of named plaintiffs' Goof Proof-related claims; see the litigation section.
Who owns Bob's Discount Furniture?
The annual report states that Bob's Discount Furniture, Inc. is controlled by Bain Capital, which owns approximately 73 percent of its common stock (as of March 2026); the stock has traded on the NYSE under BOBS since February 5, 2026. The company's founder, Bob Kaufman, resigned from the board in December 2025 according to the same filing. BBB's headquarters profile is filed under Bob's Discount Furniture LLC.
Has Bob's Discount Furniture recalled products?
CPSC's recall database lists Bob's Discount Furniture as a retailer of three Hillsdale Furniture recalls: children's bunk beds (June 2, 2016, recall 16-751), bar stools (January 18, 2018, recall 18-715) and Chadwick and Bailey five-drawer chests (December 18, 2019, recall 20-041). In each, CPSC names Hillsdale Furniture as the importer. For the chests, CPSC lists Bob's at 800-569-1284 or [email protected] for a free repair or refund. A currently listed product is not a recalled one; check CPSC.gov and SaferProducts.gov.

Options include BBB, your state attorney general or consumer-protection office, the FTC at reportfraud.ftc.gov, and for product-safety incidents SaferProducts.gov.
