American Income Life: policy, claim and recruiting questions - what the company's own pages say (checked October 18, 2026)

People searching for this company are usually (a) policyholders with a billing, beneficiary, cancellation or claim question, or (b) job seekers who were contacted about an agent or management opening and want to know what the work is. The routes below come from AIL's own pages, opened on October 18, 2026; policy terms differ by product and state, so read your own policy.

If you hold an AIL policy.

  • Customer Care: 800-433-3405, Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm Central (ailife.com home page footer).
  • The Policyholder Services page offers a customer login (myaccount.ailife.com) and downloadable forms listed as: Address/Name/Misc. Change, Beneficiary Change, Bank Draft Authorization, ACH Payment Authorization Form, Lay-off Waiver Form and Strike Waiver Form. No separate cancellation form appears in that list; ask Customer Care in writing how to cancel a specific policy and keep the date and the name of the person you spoke with.
  • Claims: the File a Claim page says the "claims process varies for different types of products" and that "For any policy less than 2 years old, the claim will be subject to further review." It lists life claim filing instructions and an accelerated death benefit claim route, and the Policyholder Services page has a verification route for funeral homes.
  • New York policies are written by the subsidiary National Income Life Insurance Company (nilife.com), according to AIL's FAQ.

If you were contacted about a job. The company's career site (ailcareers.com) describes the role as an "independent career" and its FAQ says to visit ailcareers.com for "an independent career selling AIL products". Globe Life's Form 10-K says agents of American Income Life "are independent contractors that exclusively sell for Globe Life." Before attending an interview, ask in writing whether the position is employment or an independent-contractor agent role, how compensation is paid, and which licensing, exam, training or equipment costs you would pay yourself. AIL's career fraud alert states that its recruiters will not use Google Hangouts or WhatsApp, will not ask for sensitive personal information by phone or messaging, and will never ask for money, gift cards or to cash checks; it points victims to IdentityTheft.gov, the FBI's ic3.gov and Globe Life's internal audit team.

Where to complain. Your state insurance department handles complaints about insurers and agents; the NAIC page "Insurance Departments" says "Find your state insurance department and file a complaint." Complaints can also be filed with BBB (see the complaint-record section). Concerning employment-status or discrimination concerns, see the regulator section for the EEOC matter disclosed by Globe Life.

EEOC matter disclosed by Globe Life Inc. (Form 10-K for fiscal 2025, filed February 25, 2026)

Globe Life's Form 10-K (Note 5, Commitments and Contingencies) states: "On September 26, 2024, Globe Life Inc. and its subsidiary, American Income Life Insurance Company, were notified by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) that the EEOC conducted an investigation of charges filed against Globe Life Inc. and/or American Income Life Insurance Company by five former sales agents and one then-current sales agent."

The filing says the EEOC "asserts that there is reasonable cause to believe the six complainants were employees, not independent contractors," that they were discriminated against on the basis of sex (and one also on the basis of race), and that a class of female workers was subject to conduct that "constitutes a pattern-or-practice of discrimination." It adds that the EEOC's "investigative findings are not binding on Globe Life Inc.", that the conciliation process "has concluded without achieving a resolution" on October 31, 2024, that the EEOC "may elect to file a lawsuit", and that since then the companies "have not received any further communication from the EEOC". The filing says Globe Life intends to remove this disclosure from future filings unless there are material updates. Globe Life's Form 10-Q for the quarter ended June 30, 2026 (filed August 5, 2026) does not contain the words "EEOC" or "Equal Employment" anywhere in the filing (text search, checked October 18, 2026); that is not a statement that the matter is resolved.

The 10-K's risk-factor section adds that in September 2024 the EEOC "notified us that it had determined that all sales agents affiliated with State General Agent Simon Arias were employees, not independent contractors, of Globe Life Inc. and/or AIL. Such determination is not binding", and that "From time to time, we are subject to civil litigation, including class and collective action litigation, alleging that we have improperly classified certain of our sales agents as independent contractors."

These are EEOC findings and company disclosures, not court judgments. No EEOC lawsuit against American Income Life was identified in the sources checked on October 18, 2026 (the Form 10-K and a CourtListener search of case names containing "American Income Life"); the EEOC's own site was not searched for this page.

The same Note 5 says the Globe Life companies are "subject to litigation, including... alleged worker misclassification" and "alleged employment discrimination", and that management "does not believe that it is reasonably possible that such litigation will have a material adverse effect" on Globe Life's financial condition, results or liquidity.

Who American Income Life is

American Income Life Insurance Company is a subsidiary of Globe Life Inc., and Globe Life's Form 10-K for fiscal 2025 describes its American Income Life Division as underwritten by American Income Life Insurance Company of Waco, Texas, selling "individual life and supplemental health limited-benefit insurance marketed to working families" through "11,920 average producing agents in the U.S., Canada, and New Zealand." The same filing lists Globe Life's other primary subsidiaries as Globe Life And Accident Insurance Company, Liberty National Life Insurance Company, Family Heritage Life Insurance Company of America and United American Insurance Company; each is a different company with its own policies and complaints.

The company's pages give two accounts of its founding: its history page (ailife.com) says Bernard Rapoport founded the company in 1951 with $25,000 of borrowed capital, and its timeline says American Income Insurance Company was founded in 1951 by Harold Goodman and his nephew Bernard Rapoport; the careers site (ailcareers.com) says the American Income Division "was founded in 1954 by Bernard Rapoport". The history page also says American Income Life was sold to Torchmark Corporation in 1994; Globe Life Inc. is the former Torchmark (EDGAR lists "TORCHMARK CORP" as a former name through 2019-08-02), so archive posts from 2003 to 2011 on this site predate the rename. The company says it markets to union and association members, including through a no-cost Child Safe Kit it says is endorsed by the International Union of Police Associations. Its FAQ says people who are not part of a union or association can still buy certain products. The company's pages give two claims-paid figures for 2025 that are not the same measure: the home page says "$298,227,106 in claims were paid in 2025" (life and health, based on 2025 financial data) while the claims page says AIL-NILICO paid $287,140,775 in life claims (per internal company records). The recruiting site is branded "Globe Life American Income Division".

The BBB profile for the headquarters lists the address 7677 Henneman Way, McKinney, TX and raw data showing the business started in 1947, was incorporated on July 16, 1954 and has been BBB-accredited since 1952. The BBB also lists many separate local-agency profiles under the American Income Life name; this page uses only the headquarters profile.

BBB. The BBB profile for American Income Life Insurance Company, McKinney, TX (headquarters and corporate-owned locations) shows BBB Accredited, rating A+, "977 total complaints in the last 3 years" and "275 complaints filed in the last 12 months", and a customer-review average of 1.33 out of 5 stars from 823 customer reviews. The letter rating and the review average are different BBB measures, and BBB says the complaint text it displays "might not represent all complaints filed".

Trustpilot. The Trustpilot page for ailife.com shows a score of 2.2 from 11 reviews, an unclaimed profile, and the notice that the company has no history of asking customers for reviews so the reviews may not be representative. Trustpilot does not fact-check reviews.

This site's archive. 32 posts on usacomplaints.com, dated December 2003 to October 2011, name American Income Life, AIL or American Income as the subject. By keyword match, 25 of them describe the recruiting or job-interview process (for example, being contacted through a job board and then attending a group meeting about a sales role), 16 mention money (fees, unpaid time, commissions or licensing costs), and one is a policyholder service complaint about an unreturned call. Each is one poster's account and the page does not verify them; the company's position is given in the sections above. Seven further posts name local agencies that the posters tie to American Income Life; they are linked as non-primary mentions and not counted.

Separately, a CourtListener search for case names containing "American Income Life" displayed 127 federal dockets on October 18, 2026. They include suits the company filed and suits filed against it, among them a case listed with nature of suit 485 (Telephone Consumer Protection Act) filed July 1, 2026 (Congiunti v. American Income Life Insurance Company, S.D. Ind., 1:26-cv-01395). The dockets were not individually reviewed and are not summarized here; the data-incident settlement naming AIL is described in the litigation section.

Shareholder suits against Globe Life Inc. (Form 10-K for fiscal 2025 and Form 10-Q for the quarter ended June 30, 2026).

The Form 10-K says a putative securities class action was filed on April 30, 2024 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas against Globe Life Inc. and six current or former executives and directors (City of Miami General Employees' & Sanitation Employees' Retirement Trust v. Globe Life Inc., No. 4:24-cv-00376), for purchasers of Globe Life securities from May 8, 2019 through April 10, 2024. It says the defendants' motion to dismiss "was denied on September 29, 2025" and that Globe Life "plans to vigorously defend". Globe Life's Form 10-Q for the quarter ended June 30, 2026 (filed August 5, 2026) adds that the consolidated complaint "added four additional executives as defendants", and that "On May 15, 2026, the Lead Plaintiffs moved for class certification. The motion is scheduled to be fully briefed by October 30, 2026." No settlement or judgment is described in either filing. The CourtListener docket for this case could not be opened for this page (a human-verification screen appeared), so the docket was not reviewed.

The filing also describes shareholder derivative suits in the same court (consolidated as In re Globe Life Inc. Stockholder Derivative Litigation, Lead Case No. 4:24-cv-00993-ALM) and a derivative suit in the Business Court for Dallas County, Texas (Walker v. Coleman, Case No. 25-BC01B-0041). For the federal derivative suits the filing says the allegations "are substantially similar to the allegations made in the City of Miami Matter and derive from a short seller report"; for Walker it says the litigation "is largely similar to the City of Miami Matter and derives in part from a short seller report". The Form 10-Q for the quarter ended June 30, 2026 describes two further federal derivative complaints filed in November 2025 (Plymouth County Retirement Association v. Darden, No. 4:25-cv-01246-ALM, and Catherine M. Sugarbaker Family Trust v. Coleman, No. 4:25-cv-01274-ALM) and says that on April 17, 2026 the Court appointed Plymouth as Lead Plaintiff, on May 8, 2026 Plymouth filed a consolidated complaint, and on June 23, 2026 defendants filed a motion to dismiss it; it also says the Texas Business Court stayed the Walker case on February 5, 2026 "pending further order of the Court". The Walker petition, as Globe Life describes it, includes a claim of failure to oversee "purportedly widespread corporate misconduct including fraud, discrimination and harassment". Globe Life's risk-factor section says allegations of independent agent misconduct could damage its ability to recruit and retain agents.

American Income Life Insurance Company is not named as a defendant in the securities case in the 10-K description. These are allegations in pending cases; no judgment on the merits is reported in the filings.
