Fee to find out what is wrong with your car is a scam

I needed my tires rotated, so I took my truck back, as it was free due to I purchased the tires from them. The week prior, I started hear a sound in the rear of the vehicle. I asked Good Year to look into what could be causing the sound and let me know. They explained that the fee is $19.99 and if I have them fix the issue, that will be removed from the bill. I agreed and left.

A couple of hours later, I received a call from the manager, stating that the sway bar links in the rear were bad and needed to be replaced. The cost was $125 per side. I found this quite odd, as I had them replaced, 4 months prior. (I watched the mechanic replaced all 4 sway bar links). I told the manager, that I would be there shortly to pick up my vehicle, but to not complete any repairs.

I arrived to get my truck and asked him again what the problem was. He again stated that the sway bar links in the rear of my truck were bad and needed to be replaced. When I told him, that I had those replaced 4 months prior and that I watched the mechanic removed each one, please the old one, on the ground, open the box and place the new one back on the truck. He explained that I must be mistaken, because the links are original.

I told him that he must be mistaken and that I would contact the mechanic that replaced the links and get a 2nd opinion. I called my mechanic, (ASE certified) set up an appt and had him look at it. He placed my truck on his left, looked at the rear driver side link and showed me where the bolt had come lose and was causing the noise. He tighted up the link, I drove away and have not hear the sound since.

I called Good Year, spoke with the manager (cant rememeber his name) and explained what my mechanic had found. He stated, he would stand by his mechanic and they were correct. I asked for my $20 back as they did not find what the problem was and actually tried to get me to do something that was actually unnecessary. He declined and that was the end of the phone call.

I placed a complait with the corporate offices for Good Year and asked for a refund. I was told that either the manager of the store or the District manager would call be back. I never heard from either one. After 2 months, I did hear back from the Corporate offices and was told that they did perform the work and I would not be receiving a refund. When I explained again how I felt that Good Year had tried to commit fraud by having me spend $250, instead of a minimal amount to tighten a bolt, they stated, it was not fraud, because they did not actually complete the work.

I guess because I actually questioned what was going on, then it is ok, to try and get someone to pay for something that was not needed. I will never go to a Good Year again, for anything. They are trying to take advantage of people and complete work that is not required.
