I purchased a car from Family Auto in Scranton. They were including a Engine & Transmission warranty on the car and told me that as soon as I drive off the lot the car is covered. "Peace of Mind" for them and me I was told. This was their selling point.
Without this warranty I would not have purchased the car as there were a number of other cars I was interested in but none were coming with this warranty.
Well, on the way home the oil light starts going off with loud beeping. When I called them they said they just put in new oil sensors and their mechanic checked the oil pressure, etc. And all was fine so it was probably defective sensors. Since I was half way home (I live quite a distance from dealer) I decided to have my mechanic check it out.
To make a long story short, my mechanic found the oil pressure to be low. At that point Family Auto instructed me to call the warranty company as the engine would be covered.
When I contacted the warranty company said they weren't going to accept my policy then after 10 days of me calling every day they decided to send out an inspector to my mechanics shop. The inspector and my mechanic removed the oil pan and found that a new oil pump had already been put in as well as oil pressure valves. There were metal shavings in the oil and it was diagnosed as "needs a new motor". The warranty company then said that this was a pre-existing condition that they don't cover and I need to deal with the dealership (Family Auto).
I have left approximately 10 messages for Family Auto and no return phone call. Also, the car had recent inspection stickers and when my mechanic inspected car it failed at more than one point (Hmmm).
I am now left with a car that needs a new engine and I am out $2000 and they will not return my calls. I have found other complaints on this site as well as others about this dealership after much research and have been in contact with one person who had the exact same thing happen to her. I will now have to file charges against the dealership and will be filing a complaint with the Commonwealth of PA licensing department. Do not buy a car from this dealership. You will be screwed!
