On 2-25-10 (state of emergency snow storm in peekskill, ny) my daughter tried to leave her friends apartment complex, and due to unplowed roads, her car was slipping and sliding, so for her own and others safety she left her car on side of road.
She heard the tow truck come at approx. 11:00PM, so she ran out, and behind truck was a police car who had the tow truck come to this complex because there were numerous cars stuck to side, but they wouldn't release her car from tow truck.
They were coming back for other cars after hers. This towing company demanded cash only in order to get her car back, and charged her $250.00 for a 3 minute drive to storage area right down the road at the peekskill train station.
I did speak with a lieutenant at peekskill police department and she said they got many complaints that night about this tow company charging so much, especially being it was declared a "state of emergency" where cars could not move.
Lieutenant was very nice and explained that are having a meeting on this subject due to so many people having to deal with this and being ripped off in an uncontrollable situation (unplowed and unsafe roads), with this company local.
They definately took advantage of my daughter, as well as others by charging what they did, and should be ashamed of themselves due to the circumstances of the evening.
I was told by the lieutenant that one man was charged over $400.00. Shame on them. With the economy the way it is today, and a state of emergency, they should feel the same pain they are projecting on everyone by their thoughtlessness and selfishness.
Of course they have to charge something, but this is absolutely rediculous and just plain old greedy being they are right down the road.
What's right is right, and they are oh so wrong, and i hope they understand the meaning of karma.

It's all about the money and taking advantage of helpless people in a bad situation!
