This guy runs a business on Craigslist where he sells a lot of used cars and makes them appear good. Once you go there, the car is not what it seemed on the ad but also he lied about the history and the mechanical issues the car had.
I am writing the report because I know this guy buys a lot of cars from auctions and sells them. When I went to buy my car there where others selling other cars, all this happening on a private street close to Oakland.
I found this car was savaged when I took it to the DMV because this guy only gives you a Bill of Sale. He is even evading taxes by declaring the car as a gift worth $100. I had to do a certified brake & light inspection to be able to get the title transferred to me and plates. He got away with doing it himself because he probably has a repair license or a dealer license (he said he was a mechanic).
I know I made a mistake and I was naive, I even thought he was giving me a great deal on the car because I checked the wrong website for used car values (use the Kelly blue book folks, not Vehix). I just do not want anybody who knows this guy or somebody doing something similar to get into the same trouble I did. Currently I am selling this car as a piece of garbage because the engine and the transmission both went bad after running it 10,000 miles. Even after spending 50% of what I bought the car for in trying to fix it plus paying fees due to DMV and the certified inspection. All of this for a 20 year-old community college student (starving, by the way).
