My story is similar to many others I have seen on here. I started having trouble with my transmission and then suddenly it would not engage in reverse. I took it to the dealer who then told me that I needed a new transmission. Due to the age of the car, I chose to have it rebuilt.
I called around and ask several shops for an estimate. Mr. Transmission had the lowest estimate at a maximum of $895, possibly lower depending on the extent of the damage. They offered to tow my car for free and give me an estimate, they said they could have it completed in 3 to 4 days. This sounded great to me so I let them tow my car.
Several days later, they called my husband and said that it would be $1400, the damage was more than they expected. I would have at this point taken my car somewhere else simply because they lied to me, but my husband said they would charge us for the towing if we changed now. They want to charge us for the free towing? Because it would be more convenient to let them do the work even though now there estimate exceeds the other shops estimates I have, I agreed.
Several days pass, on the day my car should be ready, my husband calls and they let him know that when they took the transmission apart, there was more damage than they thought, the price has now jumped to $2100. If we dont get the repairs done there is a $400 charge for what they have done so far.
The dealer would have replaced the transmission for $2600. Please do not go to Mr. Transmission, they practice very unethical buisness practices and I look forward to sending my complaint to the better buisness bureau also. The BBB reported no complaints on Mr. Transmission at the time my car broke down, we checked before taking it there.
