Catrostrophic Engine Failure - Poor Quality Control with NO Customer Care

Blueprint Engines aka Marshall Engines Kearny, NE

I bought a 355 Chevy short block for my car that I was restoring from Marshall Engines in NE. They had a good reputation with a price of $1,300.00 not including freight. I thought sounded like a really good deal, rather than rebuilding the old block for much more. I should have looked closer at the internet forums because I would have seen a lot more complaints with their products and customer service.

When the block was tanked and cleaned not all of the cleaning material was removed from the oil galley before they installed the galley plugs. At 200 miles it lost oil pressure.

The motor was pulled and torn down. The crankshaft, oil pump, main and rod bearings were scored very deep. Metal shavings were found throughout the bottom end. The camshaft and cam bearings were just fine. I had a machine shop turn the crank, install new bearings, oil pump, lifters and reassemble. They did not change the pistons or the rings because they were brand new.
Marshall Engines wanted the bearings returned to them for inspection, and like a fool I sent them all of them. I should have kept a couple of them for proof. Their techs said There is no evidence of shot material, However, they offered me a new set of bearings or a discount on another motor. Why would I want to buy another motor from them? I just wanted them to pay for the repair of this one. There was $800.00 worth of damage to the short block and their offer was no where near that.

I have been in touch with Marshall Engines by e-mail numerous times.in the beginning they would get back to me the next day. After their technicians looked at the bearings they stopped all correspondence and it appears they are just ignoring me now.

I finally sent a complaint to the BBB in Lincoln NE for help in getting this situation taken care of. They in turn supposedly sent the complaint on to Marshall Engines. I have contacted the BBB twice. I guess that was a joke also. I can't seem get anyone from either company to answer me back. Maybe they are just too busy with too many complaints trying to keep their local businesses operating.

This motor is now has 1100 miles on it and is still burning 1 quart of oil every 200 miles. The car is now parked until next spring when I might be able to have the old motor rebuilt here by a Professional Machine Shop. I may have lost the battle with this Co. But I hope this will help people see what kind of company Marshall Engines aka Blueprint Engines operates as and you patronize a company that cares about the quality of its product and customer satisfaction.

All I wanted was for them to honor a defect from sloppy workmanship. But instead, this is how they handle customer service.

This has been going on since May 30. Today is Sept. 18.

If you buy a motor from Marshall Engines be prepared for problems. If it is major problems Good Luck!
BEWARE - They probably will not honor any type of warranty claim.
