Went to Lee Dodge to purchase a vehical to suite our growing family. Had a clean 2004 Ram 1500, it only seated three and we needed more room. Was going to purchase a 2008 quad cab, the sales person said the payment will be around 400 to 500 a month. My wife and I were not comfortable with this high of payment with a 14 mpg vehical.
We choose a Caliber which would be right for our budget due to price and mpg, the sales person told us the payment would be around 200 to 300 a month, which sounded right. The sticker was 18800 and our trade was worth 4800 so we figured we would be in that range.
They sold two other vehicals and another couple and ourselves were waiting hours for paperwork. Mind you we arrived at the dealer at around 10am we selected a vehical after two test drives around 12pm and paperwork wasn't ready till 8pm, one hour before closing. I was tired, my wife was getting frustrated I was called into the finance room, he stated we added an anti theft protection to the vehical, the finance company wants you to put 550 cash down, I acknowledge and he says sign here, then here, then here, and my wife hands over 550. I signed without looking, what a fool I am.
He then walks us out, the car is there and we are handed the keys. We drive off. I was so exhausted I didn't even realize we walked out without any loan papers.
I call in the morning to let them know we looked in the glove box and seen a shipping statment, which showed we were supposed to get front and rear mats, and rear cover, and a full tank of gas, also we never received a copy of the installment agreement. They said come in and we will take care of everything.
I get to the dealer, they took floor mats from another vehical and gave them to me, and stated the finance guy wasn't there and wont be back until the next day. I asked okay but I need a copy of my loan. They state it's locked up in his files, I leave forgeting the gas and rear cover.
I call the next day, he still isn't there and no one can get me these papers. I call the local police and ask them if they can assist me, an officer showed up and they provided copies, stating the finance guy has cancer and they gave me my copies and stated to the officer they wanted me off the property. I left.
I review the papers and I find the total cost of the loan is 36000! They charged me 20800 for the vehical when the sticker said 18800. They gave me 3800 for my 04 ram with 60000 miles on it, and my finance rate is 24%. The total amount financed is the sticker price. I noticed on the DMV form, I am figuring for title it states they sold me the vehical for $1.00.
I am so upset, something that was supposed to be an event (my wife and I are married less then a year) our first vehical together, became a nightmare.
Please do not do business with this company, I wish there was a way to stop this kind of thing from happening, but sometimes we make mistakes, and I did by trusting these people.
