I went here to look for a car or van. I don't have great credit due to the mortgage crisis I filed chapter 7. So needless to say no other auto place would finance me. I had gotten a car from these people before when they were ugly duckling and despite paying 4 times the car's value the car lasted for 6 years.
I went here and bought a dodge caravan. I put 1,000 dollars down and the payments were 410 a month. A little high and with the term of the loan I would be paying 22,000 for this van. It had 50 thousand miles on it. Still under a warranty for the a/c, tires. 10 hours after I drove this van home the check engine light came on. I called the drivetime repair line. They told me I would have to bring the car to their south side location and pay 40 dollars for a diagnostic check. I explained that I only had the car less than 24 hours before this light came on. I also was not too sure the location of their south side repair shop and he gave me confusing directions. The check engine light went off the next day. The van ran fine so I didn't bother going to the repair shop. Upon reading the paperwork about the van that I uncovered in the glove box, I seen that the front end alignment was shotty and check engine light came on from time to time.
I drove this van for less than 4 months, Making the payments on time each month.
The other day I was driving down a busy street when the van just died! I had to push the van out of a busy traffic ridden intersection and into a parking lot. I ended up having it towed to my house. I called drivetime to find out about repair and they told me to call the helpline and that there was nothing they could do but put it on a diagnostic repair machine after I pay 40 dollars and to have the van towed to their south side location. The tow would of cost me over 100 dollars or more to tow it from the far NE side of town. The lady yelled at me and asked why I don't have towing on my insurance. I have full coverage but not towing. She said there is nothing she could do and they only take payments not help people who are stranded on the road!
Upon inspection of the van by a local friend/mechanic, the fuel tank had been repaired before and was now leaking gasoline out of the bottom. Also the transmission was shot. When the van did start one time it made a loud whirling sound and then just died. The mechanic said this van was pieced together and had lots of mechanical problems. Needless to say drive time can come pick out this heep of crap and take the payment book with them when they do.
DO NOT buy a car/van or anything else from these people. Bad credit or not, save your money and pay cash for a used hunk of junk which would probably run better than this thing. Their staff was rude with me on the phone. Did I also mention I had my elderly mother in the van when it did die out? She missed her doctors appt. Because of it. We now are walking everywhere we go until I can find a good used car. FORGET DRIVETIME!
Also when I did go there to look for a car, they tried to get me to buy a mazda protege and when the sales man started up the car the belts made a awful sound and then one snapped and under the car lay a broken belt. He STILL wanted me to buy the car telling me that when they wash the cars sometimes the belts fall off. Whatever!
