A little over 6 months ago I bought a car for $300 dollars. A 1980 Ford Fairmont. It was a great running car, but there was a window missing and I couldn't have my children riding around in that with the cold weather coming soon. After several attempts to find a new window for the car, I asked around about where to trade the car off for something better. A girl at work told me to go to Davis Auto Sales.
I asked a few people about Davis, and they all told me the same thing. Don't go to him. He's a ripoff. But i was desperate, and the cold weather was quickly approaching. So my brother, who lived nearby and needed a car as well, went along with me.
I should have know something was wrong when a man pulled out of there in a truck he had just given a lawnmower as a downpayment for. Yes, I know, I'm stupid. But not anymore.
So after Davis gave my car a once over he told me he could do a trade-in. The first 3 vehicles he showed me wouldn't even start. (Another sign) The final car was a Dodge Daytona. The engine turned over fine, and it ran great up the road and back. So I signed the paperwork. (Over $3,000... Another sign) I got about halfway home with it when it started over heating. I pulled over, popped the hood, and smoke billowed out from the engine. The radiator was shot and cracked the head. I walked 15 miles carrying my son to my house and had my grandfather pull the car home for me. I immediatly called Davis, and he told me that since the car left the lot fine, that i must have done something to it. Therefore, it was my fault and if I wanted to return it i would have to fix the damages first. Otherwise I would be paying the full 3 grand for the P.O.S.
I called the court house and they told me there was pretty much nothing I could do against him. (Meaning he had most of the town in his pocket.) A friend of mine had a car just like it, and wanted to take over payments for some reason. Davis said he could do that, for some more money down. I then told my friend to find me a new head and put it on the car, and I would pay for it. I then returned the car to Davis. When I asked him what it would take to get my old car back, he said; "I already sold it, looks like you're out of luck."
I later found out that my Mom and both my uncles had been ripped off by him when they were my age. I found out too late of course, but that goes to show that his shifty ass has been running scams in spencer for 20 years. My advice, never buy anything from him or anyone who looks like him. The worst part of it all: He was sitting there READING A BIBLE when I brought the car back to his lot, which is across the road from a church! I know someone who is going to Hell on an express train.
