This travesty started about 2 yrs when I was looking for a good performance shop to rebuild the engine in my Toyota FX-16. Toysport was discovered easily over the internet and had a very impressive website and seemed to be affiliated with all right people including TRD.
I spent a long time monitoring their website and reviewing their aftermarket parts lists. After a period I decided to take what was my third vehicle down there (only 70 miles away) and leave it for the work to be done. I wasnt in hurry so when weeks stretched into months... I didnt worry
As part of the work, he was supposed to install a rebuilt tranny I provided. It was during this phase that things started to deteriorate. I had already paid him a couple thousand dollars for on-going work.
The supplied tranny didnt work for some reason, even though it was an exact replacement and he needed to go out and find another used tranny to replace and he would have it fully checked out. This process went for while and finally I was able to pick the car up and settle.
Within 2 weeks, the transmission locked and refused shift to forward gears. I had the car towed back to Toysport and of course he was very accomodating about taking it back and was going to be repaired at no additional cost. Considerable time had gone by and a significant about money had been paid.
Finally, after another long spell, I was able to be pick the car up again. This time the car went a month and half before it started acting up.By this time, my fuse had been lit and I took the car to two different local transmission places to get the rest of the story. It was clear from the result that no work had been done on the transmission at all. He offered to take the car back to fix, but I wasnt going there again.
It cost another $1900 to restore the transmission. I asked Toysport to partially re-imburse me for the cost and they are not answering my emails and whenever I call Joel Luz isnt in, just left, went out of the country to go to a relatives funeral.
Now I am wondering how much he actually rebuilt in the engine. Joel is an expert at performing marginal work and making it look like it was a complete job.
All potential customers need to be forewarned. I dont know how many folks he has ripped off; but I am sure there are enough out there to support a class action suit.
