One Rietti Varekai Electric Moped (TT340RE) was purchased online from GadgetUniverse.com. They also have a catalogue with the same items. It clearly states online and in the catalogue that the scooter has 'a top speed of 60mph'.in fact, the scooter does not go anywhere near that speed.
I called their customer service and asked about this. The rep told me that it was a typographic error and was suppose to say '60 kph'. I said this was a large error since the decision to purchase this item was based on my requirement that the scooter must be able to go at least 40 mph (two thirds or their claimed top speed).in fact, the top speed of this 1500w scooter is only 27 miles per hour, -dangerously slow for city street riding.
I talked to a supervisor who insisted the scooter had a top speed of 35 mph (not 60mph). I explained that on a straight, flat, asphalt service, I was only able to achieve a top speed of 27 mph, nowhere even near his 35mph claim. He then instructed me to take the scooter out on the road and have a friend drive along side to get an 'accurate' speed, -to say the scooter's spedometer was defective.
Also, they have a no return policy on scooters (conveniently). The written description also indicates front and rear disk brakes. This is also a lie. It has a front mechanical brake and a rear disk brake. I received no owners manual, or product into with the product.
Their scam is clear. Grossly exaggerate the claim of the top speed to get people to purchase the item, argue with the consumer when they call to complain, and ultimately keep over $1500 since they have a no return policy.
