Hello,
I'll try and keep this short and sweet. I ordered a STS Turbo kit for a 2011 LS Camaro. I orederd the kit in December. I took delivery of the kit in Febuary of 2011 and had the kit installed in March by a local Va. Beach reputable speed shop. The kit was the standard V6 kit with intercooler, piping, PCV, Oil Scavenge Pump and GT-35 Journal Bearing turbo. Over the past 18 months the following is a synopsis of what has gone wrong mechanically.
- Two STS oil scavenge pumps have failed.
- Two GT-35 Turbos failed with shaft play.
- One upgraded STS P-Trim T-4 Ball Bearing turbo has failed.
- I have had major oiling issues from day one, mainly at the turbo blowing oil into the intake charge.
Now the non-mechanical issues:
-Horrible customer service. Takes days at times to hear back from their one and only Tech support guy (Ben). Good luck on trying to talk with him over the phone. I guarantee it will take you calling 8-10 times to maybe actually speak with him. 803 is his extension and just keep hitting redial on a speaker phone.
- When your something breaks, be advised that you will end up spending hundreds of dollars to get the replacement parts overnighted. If your car is just a show car, no big deal. But if it is a daily driver you will need to pay to get the parts to you fast otheriwse the parts go out standard ground shipping.
- I paid $5000.00 for the kit, $1000.00 to get it installed and paid... Here it comes!!! $3000.00 to get all the stuff fixed to include getting the intercooler and all piping cleaned of all oil residue, TWICE!!! Oh, and add roughly $600.00 in overnight shipping fees and for me personally another $1600.00 to upgrade to a replacement Ball Bearing turbo, which by the way failed 5 months later. So please take my advice, I'm mad but at this point STS has my money and the best thing I can do is to make sure no one else buys this kit, at least for a 2013 Camaro.
Ther are other Forced Induction options out there for both the V6 and V8 guys and gals. Do your research first and save yourself thousands by not purchasing a STS Turbo kit!!!
