I recieved a phone call from Julie Williamson with Continental Services on July 6 or 7 telling me about a credit card that they were offering me.
First I was told that I was referred to them by my bank to help rebuild my credit. I thought ok, this can't be fake if my bank referred me.
She then went on to tell me about a great mastercard that I was approved for with a credit limit of $2,500 and 0% APR fixed for life. (yeah right) She explained that they could do this since they were working as a middle man to help repair people's credit problems.
The catch was explained to me as a high minimum payment of 30% each month. (If me balance was $1,000 then my minimum payment was $300) I said that was a little steep, afterall, I'm a college student. She dropped it to 20%.
She also explained that this would take care of any problems I had on my credit report by sending proof of my paying on time to 3 credit bureaus each month after the first 5 months. Each time something would fall off my credit report. Sounds good, HUH!?
She explained to me the "one time fee" of $329.80 saying they could do this since there were no other fees ever. She asked for my account # and my bank name to do an electronic withdrawal for this fee. I wasn't happy with this but she reassured me that MY bank had referred me to them and that they don't share this kind of infromation.
It was convincing enough for me. Big Mistake! I agreed to it.
She then told me that everthing, including a free vaction package, would be FedExed to me in just a couple of days. (I still haven't recieved anything)
The telephone # they gave to reach them back at (877 313-0758) is just a mailbox service; half the time it was full so I couldn't even leave a message. When I finally did leave a message, they never got back to me.
I tried putting a stop payment on this at my bank, but since it came through as a check not electronic transfer, that didn't work. Ever Since then I have been trying to track down this company, finding many other reports like mine.
When some one doesn't give you what you paid for, isn't that theft???
What makes me so mad is the fact that others know about this and have reported them. How are they still working under the same name??? Has no one gone to the police? I know I'm going to the police about this to make a report.
