Today, I telephoned GC Services after telephoning NY State HESC about my student loan. I called because I really wanted to remedy the matter concerning my student loan; however, when I telephoned GCServices, I received their number from NYHESC, I was treated rudely. When I informed Micha, a collector, that I had no reliable references, he immediately became hostile and began brow-beating me as to why I have no references.

He claimed that I would qualify for a government problem for those whose loans are defaulted. I was willing to provide him the information and did provide him the information requested until he because antagonist and treated me as if I was making no attempt to pay part of the loan. I kept having to tell him that I initiated the telephone call to them because I was interested in trying to rectify my debt. This Micha guy used intimidation as his rule for extracting information.

At that, I told him that because I had initiated the call, I would not be treated or talked to in a disrespectful manner and that he was not helping the situation. I terminated the call.

Subsequently, I called back and got a Nichols, who identified himself as the manager of the company. I went about telling him that I had initiated the call based on my initial call to the NYHESC (I spoke with a Mr. Taber @HESC of NY).informed him that I did not appreciate collector Micha and explained what telephone etiquette lacked. I informed this manager that I really wanted to work on my sutduent loan debt, but that I would not be intimidated by anyone there. He informed me that the federal government requires 3 to 4 references in order for those of us to who have defaulted loans to participate in the program. I again reiterated that I have no reliable sources or references. At that point, because Nichols seemed more concerned with me giving him a blow-by-blow review of my telephone interaction with Micha, I again decided that they were not interested in my attempt to bring some resolution to my debt.

I don't know whether there is actually a program for former students who have defaulted due to a lack of substantial income, or medical matters but, if the government has this company as its collector, then, I'd just prefer to send money as I can towards my debt. I will not deal with tactics that are unnecessary when I and not they, initiated telephone calls to bring about resolution.

If they (the government want people to pay down on their student debt, then why use intimidation to cocerce the caller? Those tactics used just made me irritated and I was not going to sit and allow them to harassment me with their 3rd-degree questioning tactics. I am in default, I truly wanted to find some solution to my debt; otherwise, I would not have telephone NYS HESC in the first place.

I will not contact them again. I will send what I can even though I am quite aware that it may take me years to pay down on my loan, I will send what I can. My shelter is foremost important and I will pay shelter costs first and all other second. This was my last attempt to talk civilly with folks who must not have any personal financial problems of their own. These people must have everything going well in their lives as not to need consideration, or understanding from their creditors. How wonderful this status must be for them!

I do not like the way GC Services respond to people who make an attempt to remedy matters. To get nasty with me because I stated I have no reliable sources is not conducive to their collection business. Why is it so difficult to be treated humanely by these people? This is why so many folks are voilent within this society of ours. People just have no humanity and obviously do not respect themselves because it seems there is a proliferation of discourteous people who interact with the public. Sure, I understand everyone has a job in which they are responsible; should this mean that you brow-beat and try to intimidate a person into submission in hopes of gathering or getting what you want from them. How will that help either parties?

Until now, I was told that HESC would not accept a payment less than what their minimum requirement is for the amount of loan borrowed. I will pay $10.00 (ten dollars) a month if that is all I can afford at this point.
